A: [3.00] Transparent amber color with 1 finger of white head. Nothing distinguishing. The bottle does not list the ABV (4.7% listed on their web site). There is a date code but I can't figure it out.

S: [3.50] Crackers, brown sugar, corn, molasses.

T: [3.50] Crackers, elevated sweetness from the caramel malts.

M: [3.50] Smooth and easy drinking. Medium body and carbonation. Easy and clean finish.

O: [3.75] I could chug these without an issue. Really clean and crisp. Still giving flavors that elevate it over a typical macro beer. I would buy a 6er of these to share. I think people that are less adventurous about beer would like them too. Finally "50% of our profits support American military families" I give points for that too.

Bought a single bottle from Beers of the World, Fall 2015. Served cold in a Duvel tulip.

Look: copper, thin white head

Smell: weak, not much

Taste: faint caramel malt, just enough hops for balance

Feel: spritzy

Overall: not bad

Founding Fathers Amber
12 oz. brown glass bottle, coded "1964 04:41 7W"
Contract brewed in Rochester, NY

Founding Fathers Amber pours a deep copper and orange body beneath a frothy head of khaki foam. The head retention and lacing are very good.

In the nose I find a beautiful fruity yeastiness reminiscent of the Fuller's strain with apple and pear, but there's also a bit of apricot and perhaps papaya or mango as well. Some medium-dark caramel also comes through; and it's also slightly mineralish from the yeast, with leafy hops rounding it out. I can only assume that there are some American hops at play here, adding in a tropical twist, and it's quite enticing.

The combination of yeasty character and hops found in the aroma seems to dominate the flavor, which is quite welcome. Beneath them, delicate notes of medium-dark caramel and almost burnt sugar give support. It's remarkably English in nature with a medium-light body and a moderate carbonation level that's supple and almost velvety across the tongue; and yet there's also a subtle American twist to it via the pacific northwest hops. Perhaps that's quite appropriate given the "Founding Fathers" moniker... ?

It's really a pleasant and easy to drink "amber" ale that probably gets passed over these days given the designation. If this was available to me at a reasonable price I'd stock it continually.
