Rich. Decadent. Dark chocolate. Hint of coconut in the finish. Boozy on the nose but not on the palate. Aged in Blue Note Bourbon barrels for 12 months.

Beer pours a dark brown, opaque except around the edges when held up to the light. Modest foam forms, turning into very persistent lacing. Smell is biscuit and brown sugar, with a little chocolate coming on as it warms. Flavor leads with sweetness, malt and molasses. This abates in the middle, leaving a drier flavor of malt and hops, surprisingly hop-flavored at the low IBU. Only toward the end does the bourbon contribute significantly, manifesting a smooth, rounded aftertaste and just a little burn. The mouthfeel is crisp for the style largely because of the ample carbonation, which you can't really see in the darkness, but manifests in lacing that persists to the bottom of the glass. This beer labels itself a bock, but I think the OP was right to classify it as a doppel. It has the gravity and opacity you'd expect for that style. Overall, this is a very flavorful beer, with the only complaint that the early, middle and late flavors seem a little disjoint.
