Notes:
Viking history in Scotland goes back a thousand years. Even our brewmaster studied in Edinburgh, where he carefully surveyed the local brew. Now we return with an Icelandic Scotch Ale, brewed with locally farmed and smoked barley and spiced with native Icelandic angelica – a fabled herb ancient Vikings used as currency. Surrender your taste buds. They have no choice but to be conquered.

L-pours a mahogany brown from the can with moderate head that quickly fades to lacing
S-inviting aroma that leads with spices (think nutmeg)
T-rich and convincing flavor, free of acidity or bite. This is a complex dark beer that has highlights from the flavoring elements but is built from the grain bill up. Aftertaste does have some mild sweetness but nothing overbearing
F-given the complexity of the taste, the actual mouthfeel seems the weak point of the beer.
O-flavorful beer that stands out from the crowd by using both grains and spices effectively while remaining within its style (wee heavy)

330ml can with a date of 05/Oct/2022. A very nice, almost traditional Wee Heavy. A bit of smoke and more floral then what is expected. I actually expected more smoke than what was delivered. Flavors of caramel, toffee, honeysuckle, and a bit of char.

11.2oz can stamped 22.06.21 BF 22/AUG/2022 (10 months old) poured into a perfect pint glass at just above fridge temp 8% ABV. The beer pours opaque light brown with abundant light brown head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves rings of lacing. The aroma is mild with sweet and smokey toasted malt. The taste is semisweet toasted malt with a slightly herbal, smokey, mildly bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with just less that average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very good.

Poured a dark brownish amber into a pint glass from a 330 ml can with a finger beige high head that disappeared in about a minute, no lacing. Aroma is medium strong of caramel and smoky malts with earthy overtones. Goes down smooth & smoky with no burn and finishes with a slightly bitter sweetness. Mouth is on the south side of syrupy but very well balanced and slightly carbonated. One of my favorite styles and Einstök does an outstanding job of representing it. A great brew for sitting around the fire on a cold winters eve.

Dark yet still somewhat translucent with a tan head that quickly bubbles away leaving only a slight trace of its existence. Nose is malty and burnt toffy. Taste is sweet, and then bitter with an ever to tiny flavor of licorice. Very good beer that is easy drinking.

Appeareance: Pours a dark amber color with a one finger head; clumps of lacing linger
Smell: Dark bread, caramel and a hint of smoky malt; celery and a mineral element appear as well
Taste: Dark bread and caramel forward with the smoked malt establishing its presence, through the middle; woodsy finish with some celery in the aftertaste
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: A little reticent in its flavor profile; needs some more oomph in the malt bill

From an 11.2oz bottler, gifted from my "Bro" Artied2....
Poured into a sniftah, it's a dark mahogany with a bit of haze clouding things up. Started with a creamy, 1/4" layer of foam, but it has ebbed to a fine, thin covering. Lacing is present though a bit light. Has notes of caramel and toffee in the mild nose, along with some brown bread. Body is a decent medium, and it's quite smooth across the tongue.
Taste is semi-sweet, with light toffee, some caramel, a bit of caramelized brown sugar, and subtle smoky notes. Doesn't have enough of any of these, though, to make it worthwhile. Needs more malty action and sweetness to be a keeper. Prosit!

From a can. A single bought at Total Wine McLean, VA. Much better than their dopplebock. Pours a clear amber with a one-finger rock head - very light tan with reddish highlights. Some minerality/metallic aroma. No discernible smokiness. The metallic character shows up in the taste as well.

Pours a rich brown with ruby hues. Get some light in there and it’s a beautiful red amber.
Aromas of sweet toffee, burnt sugar, caramel, dark fruit, hint of smoke.
Taste is nice caramel, toffee candy notes, again some dark fruit, raisin, ripe fig, roasted malt, some breadiness, nice slight spice.
Creamy mouthfeel, but dangerously sippable.
Overall, an excellent beer. I like these guys other beers but this one is just so damn good and a step above.
Definitely about this one, and glad I picked up on the recommendation of you fine gents. They had one more sixer, I’ll probably go grab that while it’s there!

Dark, reddish-brown body; clear; fair carbonation; thick head, light khaki in color; soft and spongy in texture. Bold aroma; sweet malts with a fine dose of earthy spiciness (like a strange combination of anise and spruce). Delicious malt-forward taste; slight caramel presence; fantastic spiciness; spruce; low-key maple syrup; very low-key bitterness. Heavy body; generally smooth, definitely creamy; nice boozy warmth.
What a fine heavy ale! I didn't pick up on any smoked barley per se, yet the malt base and the angelica herbals worked magic with this beer.

First time trying this style and I was very optimistic. The smell is lightly bready with the faintest aftertone of mild hops. Tasted smokey at the first sip followed by oak and a mild maltiness. Had a slightly ashy finish with a slight film of smoke on the finish. Strikingly low carbonation (which I wish was more). Overall I found this to be an interesting brew. With nothing of it’s style to compare it to, I cannot give a good representative opinion. I was a little underwhelmed and wished it was slightly more carbonated. The 8% ABV makes me like it a little bit more. Don’t think I would pack my fridge with it, but I’ll probably try it again sometime.

This is not a good beer, even less so by Scotch ale standards. Bells, Founders, and Starks versions are some of my favorite beers. This one has a sweet/bitter funk that reminds me of Natty Daddy, although I'd almost prefer one of those - even at the same price. The batch was brewed less than 4 months ago. Probably won't be trying any more Icelandic beer.

Bottled 11/12/20, best by 11/12/22, drinking squarely in the middle at 11/12/21
Scotch ale, Wee Heavy, or whatever you wanna call it is probably one of the least common styles I see these days. At least of the styles that I actually see around, if that makes sense. I’m not sure why, they’re full, malty, and fun beers that pack a bit of a punch. This one will actually mark my first beer from Icelanf so I’m excited about that. Let’s take a trip to Iceland for a minute
Pours an opaque light brown with just a finger of light tan head that slowly fades to a ring and leaves decent lacing
The smoke adds a nice layer of subtle complexity in the nose. I’m picking up on aromas of sticky toffee, boozy raisin, smoked malt, vanilla, dates, brown sugar, and a touch of orange marmalade
Thankfully the smoke contributes to the raste as well, but it remains subtle and constrained to the back end. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting earthy whiskey, brown sugar, golden raisin, brown bread, and light milk chocolate. The swallow brings notes of boozy raisin, beechwood smoke, burnt caramel, brown bread, sticky toffee, and some light nutty malt
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a smooth and slightly hot beer. Finishes slightly sticky with a smokiness to offset it
This is a damn nice beer. The smoke adds a unique character, but at the same time detracts from the core sweetness of the style. I can see why some may not love it, but I think it’s a fun take on the stule

Dark reddish brown, light tan head. Smells sweet, caramel, fruit compote, bready.
Tastes initially sweet and slightly smoky, there’s some caramel, dried fruits, bread dough.
Mouthfeel is medium heavy.
Not a style I drink often but this is outstanding. This would be great out in the cold, sitting by a firepit.

A smooth wee heavy where there's a good amount of malt, hops & ABV but they manage to keep it nice and smooth. Medium-dark brown color, a decent head, etc. A top 5 bet for one who's favorite style is Scottish Ale / Wee Heavy.

12 oz can, poured into a goblet at 40 degrees F.
L: Pours a lovely cherrywood russet red, and forms two fingers of tiny-bubbled tan head which fades in short order to a cap and ring.
S: Cherries and cherrywood, soft peat, leather, raisins, and a faint herbal note.
T: Smoked wood and earthy peat hit with the first sip, above a malt symphony of caramel, toffee, and leather. The smoke intensifies as the beer moves along, encompassing nearly the whole of the finish and aftertaste. Midway along, some cherries and raisin appear briefly, before being subsumed into the wood and ash. Herbal notes manifest here and there as well.
F: Medium bodied, smooth and mildly sticky.
O: This reminds me more than a little of a peated bock I used to like out of Iowa, that's no longer in production. A rather tasty experience.

12oz can. Poured out a dark, dark brown color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left minimal lacing on the glass. It smelled of smoked malt, peat, roasty notes and toffee. Nice smoky taste with coffee, chocolate malt and an earthy bitterness.
