American Porter - what a load of shite.

This "Porter" was poured from a 330ml bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a dark brown/black colour with a small and quickly fading head.

Smells quite dark and sweet, very malty.

Tastes quite sweet and dry, dark with some roasted flavour on the finish.

Overall a very nice beer, very tasty and fairly drinkable.

I am not sure why this beer is rated as low as it is. This is one of the best beers I drink. This brewery has perfected their malt roast process to produce a truly toast flavor as opposed to a roast flavor. Amazingly drinkable beer with complex and unique flavored.

330ml bottle from Vinbudin in Reykjavik December 2014

I can't think of a better session porter that I've ever had.
It's both smooth and rich whilst not being sweet and the finish and nice and neutral.
Very chocolatey with hints of coffee and liquorice. I could drink this by the half dozen!

Sweet, Toasty, Coffee, Smooth

I’m usually not a weather-oriented beer geek, yet I feel like this is exactly the beer I want or need with winter approaching. Einstök delivers a lot of flavor right from the start, with a lingering but subtle sweetness throughout that keeps the roasted grain character in check. Toffee and chocolate meet charcoal with a big toasty edge. The world needs more Porters like this.

Pours opaque, dark brown in color with minimal head. Taste is roasted malts, light coffee, and a bit of toasted grain. Above average to average porter. One that I enjoy, but would not rush out to get again.

Black in color with just a trace of light seeping through. A fingernail of light brown covers 2/3's of the top. Nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is of dark malt, toffee, and a hint of smoke. The flavor is bitter due to roasted barley with more toffee, dark chocolate and that trace of smoke in the fade. The mouth is chewy and dry.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Aug 2013. Picked up ages ago from Trembling Madness in York. Porter made from volcano-filtered water sounds good...

Poured into a Delirium chalice. A residue remains in the bottle, suggesting bottle conditioning. A very dark brown hue that appears pitch black in the glass. Yields a large head of creamy light brown foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Aroma of grainy malt with hints of fruity ale yeast, mild caramel and faint chocolate. A slight warming whiff of alcohol in the background, along with a whisper of marzipan.

Tastes of mild dark malt with a dry finish. Notes of fruity yeast esters, subtle roasted grain, a hint of chocolate, earthiness and faint stewed leaves. There is a slight harshness in the background, along with hints of solventy booze and cardboard. A mild bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with pleasant carbonation and decent body. Somewhat astringent, with an aftertaste of fruity ale yeast, faint ash and wet cardboard.

Meh; a sub-standard porter. Both the aroma and flavour are surprisingly bland and don't reflect what you see in the glass. Where are the roasted malt notes? The impression I get is that this a regular ale in 'porter' clothing - the colour has been achieved using patent malt that adds little to the beer's character. Disappointing, as I've enjoyed the other beers produced by Einstok. This one falls short of the mark; no need to seek it out.

330 ml bottle with a BB date of 26 Nov. 2016
From Edinburgh (High Spirits) consumed in the garden of Kellie Castle in Fife.

Medium plus body with meat medium soft carbonation.

Dark chocolate and some coffee in the finish: more coffee than earlier.
Moderately strong flavor with slightly bitter balance and a touch of sour.
Lightly smokey but essentially no char.
