Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
With notes of coffee and dark chocolate, this Porter is roasty and rich, with a robust, yet smooth body. Toasted malts give it a sinister black color, but its crisp taste will have you believing that there’s no more need to be afraid of the dark.

Lager malt, munich malt, chocolate malt, bavarian hops, with the slight addition of authentic icelandic roasted coffee.

Tasted from a 12 oz bottle.

L - Deepest brown color and appears clear when the light hits near the edges of the glass. Light tan head is initially moderately thick, then becomes a solid, thin sheet with lots of lacing.

S - Nice aromas of fresh coffee, dark chocolate, brown sugar, lightly toasted wood. No hops or yeast notes.

T - Flavors are clean and crisp, and malt-centered. I get moderate levels of chocolate, dark roasted coffee and light smoke. No hops or yeast flavors. All fade out very quickly in a dry finish.

F - Light body; moderate, spritzy carbonation. Low hops bitterness but just a hint of burnt, acrid bite from dark malt. No alcohol presence.

O - Overall I find this a clean porter with an exceedingly light body and dry finish. The flavors and aromas are nice, but they don't linger long enough, fading out too suddenly into an over-dry finish, in my opinion.

A super dark brown body, with a tan head, some loose lacing to boot. The smell was that of roasted malts , chocolate , coffee, and roasted malts . The taste was chocolate with hints, toast, roasted coffee, with sweetness / toffee notes, but not too much, just the right amount ! Decent carbonation. A very tasty porter. Good mix. Full of roasted malt, bready goodness. Silky and smooth for sure. It has a mid-heavy body and low carbonation. Einstok Toasted Porter hides it's 6.0% ABV quite well. One of the better porters I have had the pleasure of tasting in a long time.

Pours black with no head. Smells quite roasty and almost coffee. Taste is sweet and roasty, hints of licorice and bitter chocolate. Medium body - carbonation hits you up front but disappears very quickly. Slick and creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle: Poured a clear black color porter with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with light dry hints of coffee notes. Taste is also a mix of roasted malt with some light dry coffee notes and some black chocolate notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. This is not a style that usually excited me very much but this example was well brewed.

Pours very dark brown pretty much black in the glass with a thumb sized light brown head that doesn't lace much.

Aroma is nice said a toasted porter and the nose is defiantly that along with good chocolate and light coffee and toffee notes.

Taste is like the nose nice toasted malts, good bakers chocolate, some light sweetness and coffee mingled in for the finish. Finish is dry with some earthy notes and smoke hints. A good solid porter with nothing added.

Feel is medium with carbonation hitting medium also.

Overall a fine example of the style, no added chocolate or vanilla or whatever just a good brew made with toasted malts.

Black with a coffee colored 1 inch head. Smells of roasted grains. Taste of mild grains with very subtle coffee notes. It was good but I do like something with a bigger punch.

From Saveur-Biere. In Teku glass. At dinner, with chicken steaks. Very good. Good body for the style and a great balance between roastyness, bitterness and the sweetness of its finish

Appearance: Jet black with a very thick, tan, head that has good retention and excellent lacing.
Nose: Coffee roastiness all around.
Taste: Very bitter at first but sweet and syrupy in the aftertaste (especially as it warms up). Notes of coffee, cocoa powder.
Mouthfeel: Medium body with plenty of gentle carbonation.
Overall: As a big time Iceland-o-phile, I'm not going to be very objective about this one. This is one cool beverage. It's a very enjoyable beer which however perhaps lacks in complexity. I still can't believe that we can get this beer here, all the way from remote Akureyri.

330ml bottle into a Spiegleau Stout glass. Paid £2.70 for a single bottle.

Pours an opaque, very dark brown, almost black body that when held to the light shows some ruby glimmers near the edges of the glass. A thin, one-finger in height, light tan coloured head quickly fades to a thin film and collar, leaving behind only minuscule specks of lace.

Toasted grains and hints of dried dark fruit lead the relatively subtle nose upfront. A slightly darker roasted profile becomes noticeable underneath, developing in complexity as the beer warm to encompass aromas of smoke, char, earth and coffee, Taste follows in much the same way, making only a few small changes to the billing. Slightly sweet toasty grains lead initially, before being joined by a faint mixture of dried dark fruits. Subtle but lasting notes of smoke and char are present from start to finish, adding a layer of interest to the beers roasty backbone and mid palate. Towards the latter half, smooth espresso-like coffee profiles, slightly burnt caramel, wood-smoke and liquorice combine in building towards a complex and bittersweet finish. In the mouth, a reasonably smooth, light to medium body remains hugely quaffable, despite slightly over-aggressive carbonation. On the end, smooth lingering, coffee and earthy cocoa finish semi-dry and toasty without any perceptible alcohol or astringency.

Overall this is a very good beer. It expertly captures the toasted profile the name promises, but with enough restraint to avoid becoming too sweet, bitter, ashy or dry. The mellow, smoky, charred profiles that run throughout the beers backbone combine just enough complexity with high drinkability and low(ish) 6% ABV to maintain interest and make an excellent session choice. Recommended.

This one pours a pretty dark brown, with a big fluffy mocha colored head and a good amount of lacing.

This smells like caramel, chocolate, coffee, and toasted bread.

This is slightly thin tasting but pleasant enough. The toasted aspect is nice and strong, with toasty bread, toffee, toasted malt, cream, and a bit of chocolate and caramel. There's really no hop character to speak of here.

This is medium bodied, a little too thin for my expectations, with a very creamy mouthfeel.

A nice little porter, but I wish it was much richer.

330 ml bottle into pint glass, bottled on 3/1/2016. Pours lightly hazy very dark brown color, with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, brown sugar, light nuttiness/smoke, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, brown sugar, light nuttiness/smoke, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, brown sugar, light nuttiness/smoke, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from hop/roast bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy, and fairly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6%. Overall this is a great American porter. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Not a fan of this beers price tag, but regardless it's pretty good.

Pours a dark brown, almost black hue with a one finger khaki colored head. The beer leaves no lacing, but I'm not mad at it. The aroma is promising. Smells of cocoa, medium roast coffee, chocolate malt and smokey firewood with hints of vanilla beans.

For a 6% porter the taste is pretty much right on the money. It has a nice, gentle, bitter dark chocolate and coffee taste to it upfront.

Midpalate to complement the bitterness, notes of sweet tobacco, fudge, creme de cacao, half and half, roasted marshmallows, vanilla and more coffee round things out. The finish is long and pronounced, the aftertaste of the beer remaining on your tongue and continuing to unfold itself over time.

Silky and smooth, the beer has a mid-heavy body and low carbonation. Hides it's abv well, quite sessionable.

Overall this is a fantastic coffee porter with savory notes of chocolate. It's hardly worth the price though, and I doubt I will be buying it again.

12oz bottle, served in a shaker pint glass. Pours a dark black body, dark even by porter standards. Two finger offwhite head, good retention, nice lacing. Smells of toasted malt, espresso, milk chocolate. Clean, aromatic and roasty. Flavour is similarly roasty, with lots of toasted malt, no char, milk chocolate, a half shot of acidic espresso, lingering lactose-like sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, not thin at all, substantial, good carbonation and refreshingly roasty finish. A nice porter, I enjoyed this one a lot and would love to have regular access to the fresh stuff.

Dark smokey Porter. Lots of smoke with a sweet raisin flavor. Pretty heavy beer you won't be able to drink more than 3 before you are full. Great beer though.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Speiglau Stout glass.

Extremely black beer with a thin tan head which clings to the glass.

A definite astringent aroma on the nose along with a complex roasted note.

A light mouth feel but lots of rich roasted malt flavor like a blend of coffee and roast chocolate.

Excellent Porter.

Got this one from the wine guy down the road

From a bottle into a snifter
Beer brewed with Icelandic roasted coffee
14.5*P
6% ABV

APPEARANCE: Clear brown pour yields a two finger, looser, foamy and fizzy light tan head with decent retention. Clear dark brown body with no real carbonation evident. Head fades to faint wisp and clings to the glass as it recedes. Splotchy wisp and some touches of lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Toasted bread, cacao powder, leather aromas, and some light coffee. Roasted and burnt character too with notes of toffee.

TASTE: Roasted character with toasted malts, coffee and cacao notes up front. More flavor at the swallow with roasted grain, cacao, bitter roasted coffee, leather, and some burnt black malts lingering on the palate. Quite roasted and toasted with plenty of flavor after the swallow.

PALATE: Medium body and carbonation. Lighter on the palate, creamy as well, goes down fine and finishes a touch dry.

OVERALL: Pretty good. Not quite as good a porter as their IPA is an IPA, but still solid. A little too toasted and burnt perhaps, but plenty of flavor and enough going on to be enjoyable. Check it out if you get the chance.
