Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.60%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly Icelandic Pale Ale

American and Bavarian craft come together with the finest Icelandic water to create the Viking version of the Pale Ale, where robust hoppiness meets smooth malty undertones. Cascade hops give it the American character, while Northern Brewer hops add just enough bitterness to make this Ale refreshingly Icelandic.

This was a nice, refreshing ale that goes down really nice and smooth. No surprises. No "what is that... unusual... flavor???" typical of new American craft brews. Very classy.

So, this is a beer my brother picked up for the holiday. I wasn''t sure what to expect as have not had a lot of beer from Iceland. Nice big head above a handsome amber color. The nose is dominated by earthy yeast and malt notes that remind you of German brews.

The bitterness is medium but consistent. An interesting mix of herbal American and noble hops and a generally mild, ice brewed texture. An interesting hybrid style.

Decent looking brew with an orange tinge, hazy with a nice sized head from an aggressive pour. Some grassy hops and malt on the nose...meh. Somewhat sweet with light hops and slight caramel malts poking through, caramel growing as it warms. Non offensive, a bit watery but with high carbonation. Taste ain't too bad once you've drank it a bit.

Appearance: Pours hazy and amber colored with a sturdy head a finger high; dribbles of lace

Smell: Bready, with grass and cedar tones

Taste: A bready base underpins the hop tones; primarily grassy, with a hint of cedar; the hops outlast the malt in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Decent, but not memorable; at the very least I can say I have tried a beer from Iceland

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at the World of Beer in Brownwood, Fl. The appearance is a light amber color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is caramel malt and some hops. The taste is similar to the nose.
