Pours an effervescent gold with a thumb of pearl colored head. Great head retention, alright lacing

S: A little breadyness, not much else

T: White pepper, white grapeskins, and little pear up front. A little juicyfruit as this warms, more pear, plus orange notes. Finishes with pear and a little orange peel

MF: Medium body, fairly lively carbonation

An alright Wit, I sure it would be a great choice if I lived on Iceland. Easy to drink

This was a very pale, white hued yellow beer. It was served in a frosted pint glass. The coolness of the glass, really complimented the icy tone and flavor of the beer. The head was small and white, and it left a light lacing down the glass. This beer is an icy, striking, somewhat spicy take on a Witbier. Smelt like coriander, with a hint of malt. The spiciness of the coriander is strong, the orange zesty flavor is fairly present as well. I don't taste much wheat on the tongue, but there is a bluntly sweet wheat aftertaste on the roof of the mouth. The mouth feel is very light and easy-going. Overall, this is a good Witbier for those looking for something spicier and less sweet. Though, it is sweet as well. I would definitely recommend this as an ice cold beer on a warm late spring day. I have nothing negative to say about this beer, except I wish the aromas were stronger or more distinct.

Pretty nice white ale. A little lemony and reminiscent of a shandy. Simple yet refreshing. I could drink them all night but not in my normal wheelhouse

Looks very pale yellow with a 'white', hazy sheen when held to the light. Small streams of bubbles and a one finger white head that recedes quickly to a patchy cap. The nose took a long time to emerge. But finally, having been left to warm and with a good swirl, a very soft, inviting, elderflower and lemon zest comes through. Tastes of yeast and wheat, very clean, with some spices. Plenty of carbonation and a spicy finish on the tongue offsets a light body. Overall, a sharp and refreshing witbier. Takes a while to liven up. Would like the coriander and orange peel to shine through more than they do.

Brewers often invent nonsensical terms - "Canadian Pale Ale", "Quadrupel IPA", "Imperial Saison" are among my favourite - but "Icelandic White Ale" sounds appropriate in my mind given we're talking about a country that is part tundra and also experiences near continuous daylight for part of the year.

The beer's appearance makes my point for me: it has the sun-faded, ultra-pale complexion that speaks to the style's endless drinkability and warm-weather disposition, but also a giant, snowy mountain for a head that tempts me to break out the skis. Whatever you think of the name, the liquid looks good.

Aromas, like clouds in the sky, can remind us of other things. In this case, coriander could easily pass for white pepper (and you'd be forgiven for thinking there's a little dried basil in there too). And the orange peel smells almost more lemony - if it were any stronger I'd be tempted to clean the house with it.

As far as flavour goes, Einstök nailed it. All of the style's defining characteristics are proudly on display: spicy coriander, zestful orange peel, and a light and creamy maltiness made possible by the addition of oats. When it comes to taste and texture, there's nothing missing. Everything is there.

For such a casual, happy beer Icelandic White Ale surprisingly demands a lot of attention - kind of like a tiny person with a really loud, charming personality. This lean, richly seasoned and ever-so-easy to drink witbier is a great example of the style and speaks very well to the quality of this producer.
