Prussia - Passion FruitPrussia - Passion Fruit
Notes: The Passion Fruit Prussia is our non-traditional look at the classic Berliner Weisse style. Brewed with a generous amount of passion fruit, this beer pours golden in color with a nice tart finish. A perfect compliment to the summer heat.

Pours a light pale yellow with some haziness and can conditioned small floaters, head is white one skinny finger that falls so fast with no lace.

Aroma is light fruity tartness passion fruit with some good lemon kick to it along with some grassy notes.

Taste is light crisp bready malt with touches of grain passion fruit dominating not much of the lemon from the nose just hints mingled with the tartness. Brew is light crisp and clean with only light tartness in the finish. Could see this being great for the summer as advertised. Might be great for those getting into tart brews personally for me could be little tarter.

Mouthfeel is light crisp and clean , spot on more or less.

Good nose nice enough flavor could be a good introductory beer into the style or sours in general.

A- Can into a glass with a very pale yellow body and a one finger, fizzy white cap. The head is short lived and dies out to nothing, perhaps a hint of big acidity? Lacing is no where to be found.

S- Ripe and sour from both the fermentation and the added passionfruit. The lactic acid is off the charts and it is reminiscent of a Berliner with a big tart aroma leading into the added fruit. Lactic, lemons, whole cracked grains and passionfruit; simple and effective.

T- At least in the first few sips not nearly as tart as the aroma suggested. The passionfruit is also pushed just a bit aside, kind of tasting watered down. Lacks the depth the aroma had as there are just hints of lactic ferment, bread, whole grains, passionfruit and tartness. Just has this diluted feeling.

MF- Light bodied with just a touch of a foamy texture. Comes off as thin and approaching seltzer/soda consistency with the lack of oomph and the high end carbonation. Ends with a medium tartness lingering.

The aroma is enticing but the flavor just doesn't live up to it and the body comes off just a bit thin. Somehow just feels like a diluted passionfruit Berliner, not a lot of strength in the flavor.

Poured golden and fairly hazy, with a head that faded pretty quickly, nothing really left behind. Smelled and tasted tart, with a particular fruitiness that did not sit well with me. Had a nice carbonation but left a lingering tartness in the mouth that I would usually enjoy but did not sit right. I'd try again to see if it's my taste buds, maybe I'm just not a fan of passionfruits.

Very pale yellow with a little fog. A fairly aggressive pour will yield A finger thick white head. In-your-face passion fruit nose. Light carbonation. Not much to look at, but the passion fruit was a smart choice. It plays out very well. Slight tartness. I like it.

Look is an opaque lemon lime yellow with 1/2 finger of bright white head.

Aroma is tart passion fruit. Maybe some grain as well.

Taste follows nose. Tart passion fruit with some bready/grain on the backend.

Feel is clean and crisp. Carb is moderately high.

Overall a nice tart fruited ale. Perfect on a hot day. Definately crushable.

12oz can, served in a pint glass. Pours a hazy golden yellow body, slight straw, one finger thick white head, good retention, bits of lacing. Smell is heavy passion fruit, slight grain, lemon, mild acetic tartness, a bit of yogurt. Flavour is also heavy on the passion fruit, light acetic acidity, touch of lactate, lemon, light grain. Mouthfeel is medium-lighter bodied, crisp, refreshing and perfect for a hot day in the backyard.

"Best by 12/19/15"; drank 10/25/15 @ the Yarchives.

Poured from a can into a glass.

Semi-opaque pale yellow appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice, noisy bright white head which quickly dissipated; almost no lace.

Dry wheat, burnt corn & passionfruit notes in the nose.

Thin mouthfeel.

Dry passionfruit flavor; sweet up front with a dry, tart finish. Simple, flavorful & well balanced. A nice treat; hope I can nab one in the summer!

The aroma and taste follow each other pretty close. The aroma is a less prominent in comparison to the taste. Passion fruit is more subdued than I was expecting which is nice, and it balances the lemon zest character and the tartness of the beer very well. The sourness of the beer is easy to handle and very drinkable. Mouthfeel is light, crisp, and finishes on the drier side. I quite enjoyed this and it was perfect for a hot summer lounging in a pool.

Pours hazy, caution light yellow in color, with 1/4 inch head. Taste is sour mix, lemon, and slight passion fruit. Light bodied and moderate carbonation. Wanting more passion fruit taste, but makes for an above average and tart sipper.

passion fruit is really in vogue in these styles right now, it lends a cool tropicality that really brings out fruity southern hemisphere hops, and it provides a cool tartness as well that compliments the kettle soured lactic profile. more about the latter than the former in this one, as its not a particularly hoppy example of the style, but it is an awesome beer overall, super cool they have put it in cans! hazy orange in color, less murky and mucky than a lot of these, cleaned up a little bit, bubbly white head with fine retention. it smells like passion fruit first, tart and tangy and mouthwatering. the sourness is moderate, some solid acidity but not enough to turn the stomach, but plenty to be refreshing. notes of lemon and white malt tannins up front in the flavor, followed by a big swoosh of juicy passion fruit, a little more sweetness here than their needs to be, but a really pleasant and somewhat delicate flavor profile.good sourness to this, but not so much that it prevents me from having several of them. carbonation is on point, and despite there being a little residual sugar, i think the passion fruit flavor and feel is right on as well. really nice summer beer, one of the better fruited berliner styles going at the moment.

Pours a hazy opaque yellow. Momentarily there was a thin white head that almost immediately disappeared.

Smell is tart, slightly fruity, lots of lemon zest coming through. Undertones of passion fruit also noted.

Taste is mildly tart, up front. Notes of lemon zest, orange zest, bit of wheat and yeast notes coming through. the backend produces a bit more tartness followed by a strong passionfruit aftertaste. Interesting that the passionfruit comes through mostly on the aftertaste and not as much up front.

Feel is nice, maybe a bit thin. Slight pucker from the tart. Really dry finish is very nice with the tartness. Mild carbonation.

Overall a nice offering with a unique twist on the style while not straying too far from it.

This was cloudy and the color of dirty straw. It poured with a short lived fizzy head.

I found plenty of lemon zest, tangy grains, and hints of tropical sweetness. The finish was bone dry and a bit peppery. This was an out of character purchase for. Fruit German sours aren't generally my thing. I'm not sorry I tried this though.

It's odd with 4 Hands BC - we get distribution here in PA, but it is scattered to the point that I CAN find some in PHL, some in LNC & still others were returnees with me from CHI. I dig the graphics on the CANs & I am anxious to CANduct a horizontal tasting/review of their CANned beers. When it is over, if you know of a CAN of theirs that I missed, let me know.

From the CAN: "Please [recycle]; "Pairings[:] Seafood"; "Sour Ale with Passionfruit".

I Crack!ed it open as Audrey snapped & chomped at my fingers! This is a scary CAN! I just noticed that the word "Prussia" mimics the EC Comics' font. Eek. I was so gentle that the beer was hardly making a Glug as it came out of the CAN, but I did not want to rile it up any more than it already was. Perhaps some CANs are better left in the reefer, untouched & undisturbed. Once in the glass, I disturbed it plenty with a vigorous swirl that raised a brief finger of fizzy, bone-white head before falling back to wisps. Color was Pale-Straw (SRM = 1 - 2) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a sauerkraut smell & it suddenly causes me to wonder how they ferment cabbage here in PA. Lacto? Interesting! Mouthfeel was thin, kind of watery. Mit Schuss?!? Not this kid! I like it raw and this was raw, all right! It was less sour as downright tart! Man, my lips puckered, my tongue curled in on itself and it was like powdered alum in liquid form. Imagine freshly-sliced lemon sprinkled with salt & rubbed on your tongue. Wow! Passionfruit? If you say so. This was tart as all get-out with no redeeming sweetness! Finish was dry. Gaspingly dry. Where is my asthma inhaler? In all seriousness, if you are looking for a low-ABV thirst-quenching summer beer, I may have found it for you. Wild!

Looks like lemonade. Smells like a nice funky / hoppy sour. Taste is tart and funky with the fruit coming through as well. Sourness is light but seems a tad high on acidity. This is a decent beer for this style. I enjoyed it much.

A thanks to the captain of the canship, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy, light golden/whitish color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is tart, berries, wheat. Taste is tart, salty, lemons, wheat, light passion fruit. Feels medium bodied and salty in the mouth and overall, a decent beer, but not one I would need to drink again.

Best by 12/19/15, thanks to rudzud.

Light fizzy head fades quickly hazy lemony straw color.

Nose tart sour lemonade, tart tropical notes with touch of sour passion fruit, creamy wheat funky dough, tart fleshy stone fruit, an almost herbal oregano spice.

Taste more passion fruit thankfully, lots of fresh passion fruit and juicy peach, little tart lemony, little creamy wheat, doughy notes, hint bitterness grassy citrus hop, juicy flesh. Finish drier little tart, fleshy fruit, little flemmy.

Mouth is lighter bod, decent but lighter carb.

Overall decent, fruit on the taste was great, tartness and funk was ok at best, little thin, but decent.

Shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a dark straw hue with a thin white head that fades quickly to leave light wisps.

S - Aromas of wheat, lemons, light funky dough, faint passionfruit. Almost oregano like herbal note on the finish.

T - Taste is very tart lemons and loads of passionfruit. Great tropical notes, creamy wheat, almost stone fruit. That weird spice note is gone. The lightly musty tropical fruit lingers throughout the beer. Delicious.

M - Mouthfeel is brightly carbonated, crisp.

O - Overall this beer, while rather lackluster on the nose, was really delicious. The passionfruit add a great dimension to the beer.

Received in trade from gregwilsonstl, thanks for the opportunity!
Slightly hazy light yellow color with a small bubbly white head that dissipates quickly. Initially intense pitted fruit aromas but that gave way to a light lemony funk and what I perceive as fresh cut potato. Nice lemony tart flavor with some faint graininess and a touch of sweet fruit. Nice flavorful easy drinking Berliner.
