Pitch black in color with a mere fingernail of brown around a quarter of the rim and covering about the size of a quarter in the middle. I'm smelling the sweet port and vanilla. I'm tasting the sweet port and vanilla with just a suggestion of the coffee at this point. I'm hoping they brew it again someday and I will drink it fresh to get more of the coffee. The mouth is a touch sticky and chewy.

L: pours dark brown but looks black in the glass. Just a film of brown head.
S: big coffee, lighter chocolate/milk chocolate.
T: much less coffee than the nose. I do get vanilla, milk chocolate, slightly bitter coffee. This does not pop with flavor, much like regular bona fide. Meh..
F: medium to thin for a stout.
O: underwhelming

The port barrel is very nice and very balanced well with the coffee and vanilla in the aroma and flavor of the stout. medium bodied beer. Low carbonation. Not a hint of booze. 4 Hands shows some serious barrel aging finesse with this stout.

Had the regular Bona Fide right before this, and I honestly can't tell much difference between the two. The barrel aspect is very minimal, and adds little to the base. Overall, it's a really tasty beer, but not what I was hoping for in a barrel aged stout.

Pours a black color. 1/4 inch head of a tan color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of strong coffee, chocolate, hint of roasted malt, and a hint of hops. Fits the style of a Russian Imperial Stout. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with a low carbonation level. There is also a roasted bitterness. Tastes of strong coffee, chocolate, sweet malt, strong roasted malt, and a hint of hop. Overall, good appearance and aroma, great blend, feel and body.

Not a huge fan of the original, but anything barrel-aged by 4 hands is worth a shot. Dark brown pour results in a half a finger of light mocha head. Smell and taste, much like the original, are dominated by bitter coffee. As the beer warms, the vanilla beans become much more prominent. The barrel has done very little to this beer. If anything, the port barrel adds a hint of sweetness and raisin notes. Feel is on the thin side. Overall, not a bad variant but very coffee forward.

Pours black with some dark chocolate highlights. 1 finger dark khaki head. Half the head recedes quickly but the last bit lingers before leaving a thin layer of foam behind. Some fine lacing which mostly vanishes in short order.
Rich, dark coffee aroma. Vanilla is more prominent than in the regular Bona Fide. Just a whiff of whiskey. Some caramel, roasted malt, and cocoa powder.
Lots of vanilla on first sip. Dark coffee, caramel, bitter chocolate, and cocoa. Whiskey notes are subtle but complement well. Some citrus-y notes, especially before it warms up.
Smooth creamy mouth feel with pleasant coffee bitterness. Moderate carbonation. Vanilla to start and finish.
The most vanilla of any Bona Fide variation I've had. Just enough whiskey to be noticeable but isn't prominent at all.
