Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Columbus Tomahawk Zeus is the primary hop variety in War Hammer as well as the inspiration in the name. We use a combination of Pacific Northwest hops to create layers of pungent flavors. A generous malt bill adds biscuit and honey notes while allowing the hops to take center stage. War Hammer pours golden in color with aromas of pineapple, mango, tangerine, resin, and slight earthy notes.

Poured from a 'big bottle' into a pint glass.

A: Pours a nice deep golden color, with about a half inch of head. Nice lacing on the glass. Sticks around the whole pint.

S: Hops and citrus. Faints hints of grains and malts as well as grapefruit, pineapple and mango.

T: For an Imperial IPA, bitter but not overly. Smooth but with a little bite.

M: Well carbonated and fresh. Bitter as it goes down, but smooth. Can't really taste the above average ABV, kinda sneaks up on you.

O: Got this bottle from a friend who swears by 4 Hands beers. Not a huge IPA fan, but this is a solid beer overall. A solid IPA that would be excellent in the Summer. Glad to see STL has a great selection of craft beers.

Good head on the pour and outstanding foam retention. New Copper penny color. Fairly hazy in terms of clarity. Despite the color not a a lot of light gets through. Compelling hop aroma is rather piney. the malt backbone really struggles to keep up on this one. The pine like hop aftertaste is almost pine sol like to the point of being a bit off putting. Mouthfeel is a bit sticky but is normal for the style.

The nose on this one is incredible. Super hoppy, promising a nice juicy beer. Unfortunately the taste is too harsh. I really wished the taste followed the nose on this one.

The War Hammer was a big beer and quite nice. It poured a clear copper with white head that did not leave a lace. The scent was sweet with touches of citrus hop. The taste was definitely a fight between hops and sweet malt. The Mouthfeel was fuller in body with good carbonation. Overall it's worth a try.

pours copper with light creamy head. light retention and lacing.

on the nose, very fruity. heavy tangerine, orange, and tropical fruit.

same fruitness with an added bitterness. pine and earthy resin. light citrus mixed in.

moderate carbonation, moderate viscosity.

very nice double IPA, easy to drink, 9% ABV never shows.

Could've swore I reviewed this ...

Pours an effervescent with some hazing & a thumb of eggshell colored head. Clears up, stellar head retention & lacing

S: Cakeyness, mango, a little pine & woody hops, a little carmel up front, some grapefruit too. Dryness, mangos, pine, cakeyness, & a little pineapple, a little papaya & grapefruit once warm, a touch of booze warmth. Finishes cakey, dry, with pineapple

MF: Firm carbonation, medium thick body, lovely balance, warming

Nice take on the style, put this in 4 pack form & I will buy this again
