Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Cuvee Ange was inspired by the French Oak wine barrels we used for this project that once housed all French wine varietals. Fermented with wild yeast and aged in a combination of Cabernet, Merlot, and Grenache barrels with raspberries and blackberries, Cuvee Ange is a fruity, tart, complex ale. Cuvee Ange pours a bright rose with aromas of fruit, funk, and wood.

500ml bottle. No apparent dating. Appearance: mostly clear, dark amber, with a thin white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma: Raspberry and cherry fruitiness is strong, with the brett notes of grass, hay, and barnyard funk. Some noticeable acidity as well. Well balanced Taste: Light malt sweetness quickly turning to a moderate acidic tartness, followed by tart berry and cherry, with undertones of brett funk retronasally. Mouthfeel: Light bodies with a low to moderate carbonation. Finish: Tart berry acidity sticks around long after the swallow. Only a touch of brett lingers. Overall: A very light and crisp wild ale, dominated by tart berry and cherry notes. A pleasant, contrasting brett aroma and light funkiness throughout adds complexity. Very well balanced

Look -- Dark ruby red appearance
Smell -- Cherries and tartness
Taste -- Cherries and raspberries
Feel -- Thin
Overall -- I don't understand the low rating of the beer. I think its pretty good and classy....wine barrel aged beers such as 4 hands is pretty good!

500 mL bottle. Pours deep red, like red wine. A thin collar. Smells of strong red wine, blackberry and sour raspberry. Oaky and acidic. Tastes much the same. Perhaps even more like red wine. Fruity, but less sour than it smells. It smells a little bit vinegary, but it doesn't come through in the taste at all. The blackberry flavor is dry without being juicy and sweet at all. Long oaky finish. Medium body with low carbonation. Dominated by wine and barrel. Maybe not so much by the fruit, but it's more prevalent than any base beer flavors.

this is next level stuff from these guys, i had no idea they did this kind of beer, and what a shining specimen it is! man, i really dug this, its super complex, and uses the wine barrels brilliantly. there is a light pinkish color to the beer from the tap, with a tangy attractive aroma of wet old oak, dried fruity red wine, oak tannins, slight raspberry, and ripe plum. lots going on, and the flavor is equally complex. the wine aspect is incredible in the flavor, rich and high quality, dense and fruity, ad i definitely get more fruit from the wine here than i do from the added berries. the wine shows black cherry and raisin, while the berries amount to a sort of generic fruity sweetness, but i could swear there are fresh plums in here, i get the tart dark skins and the sweet fleshy fruit, must be the different elements combining uniquely to tease the plum, but its really definite to me. some acidity making this appear a little sour as it finishes, but the earthy flatness of the wood seems to more than temper that, and whats left of the yeast to appreciate, at least for me, is the wild aspect, funky and old worldy, perhaps a little young, but tasty and complimentary to everything else happening here. this beer represents a huge evolution for these guys, who i certainly did now know were crafting beers like this. very impressive brew that i am sure will continue to improve nicely with time!
