Foundation is an ale brewed in collaboration with Gerard Craft, Josh Galliano, Kevin Nashan, Kevin Willmann, and Salt. This collaboration was brought to life by the James Beard nominations, but truly reflects the foundation of culinary excellence that St. Louis offers. Foundation is a blonde ale brewed with fresh ginger, basil, lemon balm, and peach juice. These ingredients were selected in tandem with a list of seasonal ingredients used by all of the chefs and restaurants involved in this project.

pour as a light golden yellow, inch or so of head. some light retention.

basil for sure up front and some lighter herbal tones.

pretty basil forward, some other herbal zest that is a bit harder to pin point even with knowing what went into it.

mild to moderate carbonation. pretty smooth and easy

good, but at times was a bit too much basil. paired well with dinner vs. by itself.

a golden ale brewed with peaches, lemon balm, ginger, and basil. its one of those rare beers that takes you somewhere else. this takes me to my grandmothers kitchen with the marinara sauce on full boil. tons of basil in the nose of this lovely sunny brew with a tall and lasting white head. the nose is all basil, warming in a a way, although this beer is totally refreshing. peaches not so much in nose or taste, but the lemon balm and ginger add nice subtle elements to the basil and yeast, which is quite spicy for a basic golden ale. this is a full on summer beer, with herbal grace and a inventive fruity finish. this beer is really well integrated, but you can still tease out each component, which i really like. feel is light and airy, with dancing carbonation and a nice creamy medium body. one of the best 4 hands brews ive had, which is saying a lot because this place is fantastic.

A - Poured out a pale, hazy golden color with a one-finger, white head of bubbly foam. It left thin rings of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of basil, peach and lemon. Some caramel sweetness in the background.

T - Very fruity and floral with the basil, lemon and peach really coming through. It also had a good deal of spiciness with caramel, too.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a clean finish.

O - This is a great beer. They blended some unique flavors for a great taste.

Up from Jacksonville FL and stopped in at the brewery.

A: half finger head with nice lacing on a hazy dull golden body.

S: very floral, lemongrass, wheat ad pals malts.

T: this one is herbal and spicey with fresh flowers and grass notes. Mild pale malt base.

M: light body and moderate to high carbonation.

Overall: the floral and herbal character isn't overdone but this one my not be for everyone. A unique brew.
