Stopped by the place while I was in town for business and I wasn't disappointed. I decided to stop in before dinner in search of some good beers and I found a really solid beer menu. Unfortunately I only had time for a couple beers and to my pleasant surprise they had 4 different Three Floyds on tap and a few bottles. Since I was traveling from NY I rarely get the opportunity to try their beers. I was able to try Zombie Dust and another one of their imperial IPAs and they were awesome.

Their beer menu was well balanced and they also had a large bottle selection. I didn't have any food and the atmosphere was great. It seemed like a nice after work crowd and the people I spoke with at the bar had great beer knowledge.

I would definitely recommend this place and I hope to get back. Cheers!

Timmy O'Tooles is a great local hangout. Enter on the street then go straight downstairs. Grab a seat at the bar if possible. Draft beers are unmatched for the area. Sure, Howell and Hood has more options (140ish vs 50ish), but Timmy has a WAY better selection. (Quality over quantity)

They got written up for food violations awhile back so be careful. After all it is a sports bar!!

They always have an excellent tap list at reasonable prices. I prefer the bar to a table, the service is a bit better. The food is solid but unspectacular.

Wed night around 10 PM in July. Did the tourist walk up and down Michigan Ave and noticed the "48 beers on tap" sign as I made my way back to the hotel. Had been to Goose Island and Binny's earlier in the evening, so was not expecting much. This place is below ground, so you can't see inside from street level. To my surprise, even though the streets were pretty empty (surprising to me for such an early time in a big city...), the place was packed. Best thing is the decent beer list. Service, crowd, food selection, etc, not my style. But, I got a couple local brewers that I wanted to try. Worth a visit if you are confined to a couple blocks around the Magnificent Mile.

Watched the AFC Championship game here while in town a couple of weeks ago. Two words...Zombie Dust. And Alpha King, Furious from Surly, FFF Dreadnaught. Wow. Good food. Great, curated beer selection. Great service that understood we were watching a game, would eat, and were drinking good beer. Can't say enough about this place.

Went there on a Tuesday evening. The bar was pretty full at 7 o'clock in the evening. Once I found a place at the bar the service was great. I was visiting from Dallas. The eye candy there was pretty good, even for Dallas standards. These girls must be top notch for Midwesterners. There was a different sport on every TV.

As for beer goes with flexion was very wide. Tons of beer on tap and tons of beer in bottles. Being from Dallas, this would be a top beer bar in Dallas. But that is not saying much.

Tuesday nights are $1 off craft beer night.

Some of the beers I had: Three Floyds Arctic Panzer wolf, Saugatuck Neapolitan, Great Lakes Conway's Irish Ale, and 3 Floyds Robert the Bruce.

Might not be big names to you but none of them are available in Dallas.

If you're looking for something just north of the mile, I would highly recommend this.

First stop of the day on the post-Expo Chicago art fair tour.

Subterranean Irish themed bar, football playing on all 4 dozen tv's in the place (not joking). This bar probably has a higher tv-to-patron ratio at any given time. Dark and carpeted, wood paneling everywhere. Saw a digital Hamms sign on the wall, that was a first. Passed the main bar on the right past the hostess stand, lots of taps lined up with plenty of filler.

Highlights were Lagunitas IPA, something from Great Lakes, and Arrogant Bastard. The full list had a few more craft options in cans/bottles: 90 Min, Ska, Alpha King, a couple Half Acre cans, a few basics from Stone. Not many craft seasonals besides Sam Adams Oktoberfest. Opted for a Daisy Cutter at the back bar, which was less crowded. Service was pretty quick and attentive at a table in the back. They don't really promote craft beer here, you basically have to scan the taps yourself to see what's available. Beermenus lists some good beers now and then, but on 9-23-2012, the selection was pretty weak here.

Overall this bar seems to cater to nearby hotels and after work sports fans. Not really much of a beer bar but they have some decent options... most halfway decent bars in town have a similar if not better selection though. Walk or cab the few blocks from your hotel to Clark Street Ale House, Farmhouse, Jake Melnick's, Rock Bottom, etc. 2013: Howells & Hood is 5 blocks away with over 100 taps.

fairbanks & ontario - not a whole lot else around beerwise

stopped in on a Tuesday night on a "go-with-the-flow" group outing. familiar storefront, with an immediate descent into a 21+ underground bar. large, tons of TV's and a huge bar with attractive waitresses.

beer selection was actually pretty solid - 25 or so taps with even some higher end bottles (allagash 750's etc). Leine's big eddy, lagunitas sucks, tyranena bitter woman, 4 or 5 of the more standard Goose seasonals, alpha king, pride and joy, and so on. Pleasant surprise.

Everything came in appropriate glassware - the tyranena bitter woman tasted like garbage - either an old keg or a dirty tap line. The other beers were fine.

They hype up having the best wings, and they were good as far as sports bar wings go. Everything on the menu looked like pretty straightforward pub food.
