Style: Chile Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Notes / Commercial Description:
MexiCali Stout is our favorite seasonal that we release every year at Halloween. A strong coffee and cinnamon aroma complements a smooth chocolate taste with just a hint of chili spice. We use fresh spices, coffee from Charlotte-based Central Coffee Co. and locally sourced Serrano chilies to create this unique blend.

16 oz can at the Suwanee Music Camp.
Opaque black-brown body with a decent light brown head.
Coffee, light smoke, dark bread and faint alcohol esters in the nose.
The flavor has more coffee and a good bit of dark, bitter chocolate. Subtle chili.
Full body with medium, light carbonation.

On tap at Duckworths on Park Rd in Charlotte, NC

Strong scents of coffee and cinnamon. Nice body with decent lacing. Not much head. You taste some sweetness with some chile spice at the back end. Different combination. Good amount of carbonation. Silky on the tongue.

Overall, this isn't bad. Enjoyed it, but I think one pint a night is enough. Not something that I would order on a regular basis

@ Birdsong

Black with a small surface covering of off-white foam. Malty aroma that features smooth, well-integrated cinnamon spice and coffee roast…not too aggressive with either. Flavor follows the same blueprint, a nice blend of chocolaty malt and spices leading into some sweetened coffee and a hint of black malt char right at the finish. An easy drinking version of the increasingly popular Mexican chocolate themed stout. Not much, if anything, from the peppers, so spiciness isn’t an issue. Nice.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short tan head that quickly died down, leaving a patch of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of chili peppers are present in the nose along with some hints of chocolate.
T: The taste follows the smell, but has some more flavors of chocolate malts with notes of coffee beans. There is a light amount of bitterness and the chili peppers lend a bit of heat to the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. There is a little heat from the chili peppers.
O: This chili coffee stout is quite drinkable because it isn't that spicy. With the coffee, it would also make for a good breakfast beer.
