Pours a clear golden amber coloration with a medium, foamy head, slightly visible carbonation and plenty of fine floaters suspended in the glass. Smell is dominated by a very sweet, wort-like aroma, with some vague doughy, grainy malt and hints of quite floral and somewhat grassy hops also coming through. Taste follows the nose, with a decent balance of sweet, doughy, bready, grainy malt and rather floral, grassy hops, with some minor herbal accents also coming through. Finishes with a light bitterness and some sweet malt and floral, herbal hops lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

I really disliked this at first, but it grew on me a little as I drank, although I will say that it is still rather disappointing compared to their excellent Zoigl, just lacking the expressive and well-balanced harmony of malt and hops that the latter displays so marvelously. This is just lacking in nuance, with the light grainy and herbal, bitter notes struggling to overcome the dominant sweet malt and floral hops, although it does seem to come into its own a bit more as it warms a little. The nose is particularly unpleasant here though, with a very wort-like, sweet and grainy aroma, while the mouthfeel is quite nice and full, reminding me of their Zoigl.

Pours a clouded amber color with a medium, slowly receeding head.

Smells of wet leaves, dried branches and bread rind accompanied caramel.

Has a soft, yet refreshing mouthfeel to it with a lower, smooth carbonation, developing just the right amount of oomph after the swallow.

Tastes of sweet caramel, soft bread dough and subtle, muted hops. Has a grainy, toffee wrapped middle part, giving the beer a sweet turn, with prevailing, lighter dry hops in the back. Finishes light and sweet, with lingering toffee and just a faint dryness.

This is certainly less than I expected. The beer turns out quite sweet with no real crispness or complexity to speak of, relying pretty much on the malts without providing much depth.

Tried on-tap at Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà in Rome.

Pours a deep golden colour, very clear, which is surprising for a kellerbier. Body is lightweight. Head is great though: bright white, frothy, huge and persistent, leaving chunky German lace. Carbonation is fine but minimal. Really, it looks the business.

Grainy characters on the nose, giving bready, earthy notes. It's quite clean and very German in genesis. It's lacking some of the sharper character I like in a good strong kellerbier, but it's still pretty decent.

Smooth entry on the palate which is walloped by a slight underattenuated sweetness. Malty, worty characters come through on the midpalate with a slightly yeasty finish. Some weizen banana characters come through as well, along with, finally, a dusty-cellar hop presence to provide a little bite.

Feel is smooth. Not bad, but the flavour could use some crispness to match it better.

Overall, it's really not bad. But it's a bit weird though, and not what I've had in the past from German-brewed Kellers. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I guess I came in with different expectations.
