Sampled at RBESG 2006, bottle. Beautiful red colour. Barnyard and cherry aroma. Funky cherry flavour. Not bad - could have been better, could have been worse.

good kriek, but a bit too heavy and sugary. cherry flavor is very apparent and a bit much. sourness is very high and hurts mouthfeel. still, i would never turn this beer down. enjoyable.

a step better than their basic kriek, not nearly as much sugar and it doesnt seem even half as artificially fruity, but also probably a step below their oude kriek, which is supremely well done. this one pours more bright red than the oude, but less well carbonated. i get a lot of fresh cherries in the nose, and far less tartness than the oude too, so it seems really fruity. very light malt base is almost undetectable in the wake of all the fruit, which i guess i dont mind since the fruit is so yummy in this context. not too tart, but there is some acid here to balance the sugar, more of a lambic than the basic kriek. they have packed a ton of cherry flavor into this, its a little candy-like but its delicious really. a little thin in body and a little to much sugar makes it drink like a soda with all the bubbles, but i like this substantially more than the other basic kriek they do. a good introduction to the style here too perhaps.

A nice pomegranate red with a frothy lasting white head and some mild lacing. Aroma and Taste is of berries, raspberry, some sweet tar cherry flavor, some light yeast and malt.. A medium body, crisp with a sweet tart flavor on the palate. The Finish is sweet tart cherry, raspberry, some mild yeast. Not an overly sweet brew seems well balanced. A nice enjoyable after dinner drink.

2012 Vintage at Eb's
Bright reddish pink color with a bubbly white head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of cherries, no shit huh? Sweet and sour with a solid shot of lactic and a hint of funk. The flavor is quite tart with lemons and sour cherries balance a little by some sweet fruitiness and a hint of almond. Medium to light body with a tart sour mouthfeel and a crisp level of carbonation. Nice brew a bit tart and somewhat one dimensional but its quite tasty.

1952 Vintage at Eb's
An incredible treat to try these side by side, Thanks Chris!
Visibly darker and paler color without much of a head. The smell is musty and funky with a light non descript fruitiness. Sherry and hints of wet cardboard round out the aroma. The flavor is earthy musty and funky. There are hints of caramel, fruit, and sherry to round out the flavor. Medium body with a light level of carbonation and a sticky funky mouthfeel.
The 52 has obviously gone through drastic changes over the years, very interesting to compare these side by side. My favorite blend was about 1/3 old to 2/3 new.

Bottled Sept. 28, 2010.

Pours a dark cranberry red with an off white/light pink head.

Nose is hugely assertive cherry extract.

Mouthfeel is fresh and moderately bright and well balanced. Very light lambic tart character.

Flavor profile is much like a cherry soda, with a hint of lambic bitter in the mid palate and finish.

This is a good example to drink fresh and then watch change with a bit of age. I'd guess that some of the "sweet cherry essence" may smooth out a bit and more of a tart/funky lambic character will develop. Just a guess on my part.

One thing is certain, there is no doubt but that this is a fruit beer! An interesting introduction to the style. I'd like to see more tart/funk/citric lambic character.

Pours a clean deep reddish color, with a pink head. In the aroma, small sour cherries. In the taste, it is kind of like cherry Kool Aid, with a nice tartness. A smooth and lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a semi dry dark cherry aftertaste. Nice small tartness, and not medicinal at all.
