Notes: Collaboration with Guinness

Guinness & Timmermans created this amazing blend of 3 unique beers: Guinness West Indies Porter (1801), Guinness Special Export (first brewed in 1944 exclusively for John Martin) and Timmermans Oude Kriek (the world’s oldest lambic brewery).

A unique dark beer with a subtle pink hue in the foam. Aromas of chocolate, oak & cherry. Full flavoured and beautifully balanced.

37,5 cl. Bottle at Las Buenas Pulgas, served in a balloon glass.
Dark brown colour, medium beige head with persistant retention, good lacing.
Aroma is mostly cherries, with oak, chocolate, plums and vanilla.
Medium to full body, sticky texture, good carbonation. Tarty finish.
Taste is again mostly cherries, with oak, chocolate, roasted malts and vanilla.
Kriek dominates over Guinnes.
Simpler than I expected, but Stille good.

Dark magenta; carob + raspberry tart; gentle fig jam, smooth berry compote, bright maraschino, vinegar kiss + slight wood; smooth + creamy.

All soft focus. Simon’s deconstruction (Guinness FES v Timmermans Oude Kriek) shows how well this is blended. Sum is greater than whole of the parts. (Still woefully overpriced, though.)
