Visited Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant on Germantown Ave in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia on Friday August 18, 2017. The building is newly renovated within the past few years. There were TVs all around the eating area with various sports shows on.

We went over lunch and the restaurant was about half full, and was seated immediately.

There was a nice selection of beers available, many on draft. I had two pints of the Ore House IPA, which were excellent. The waitress was very helpful. She answered all of our questions and was very friendly.

We received our drinks quickly. The food was also served quickly. We enjoyed a leisurely dinner, and did not feel rushed.

I had the Big Bold Blue Burger, which was very tasty, and I loved the blue cheese on it. My wife had the Caesar salad which she enjoyed.

Overall, the beer was great, and the food was good for a brewpub. Beer selection was good too.

We enjoyed ourselves and will be back. I bought a couple of 22oz bottles to take home as well. :)

PS: I have since ate and drank at the Iron Hill restaurants in Germantown and Ardmore. I have enjoyed each of these meals, and plan to visit again.

A very nice bar in an older part of town. The bar area is very large and the decoration is modern. They have 8 or so of their beers on tap and a bunch more. There is also a full bar. They have 32 and 64 oz growlers at a decent price. The food was served quickly. It wasn't out of the ordinary, but it was good. The beers I had were clean and well made. The service was good, but not exceptional. Happy hour is 5-7 and offers $2 off draft beers.

Well I finally made it over to the Germantown Avenue location although they've been open for years. My wife's been there at least 5 times! Anyway...

It looks pretty much like all of the other 11 locations, but perhaps a little more refined with less murals on the walls. And people really seem to like when they can open the doors and sit in the fresh air overlooking the street.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Iron Hill knows what they're doing and they run a tight ship with their only weakness being their service staff (which, of course, is young and always changing). The beer and food are always solid though, and my daughter and I were both pleased with the margharita pizza we split, and neither of us walked away hungry (although we were just in for a quick lunch).

I also happened to run into brewer Chris Lapierre on my way in as he was wheeling out a trash can full of spent grain. In my opinion he's one of their better brewers (particularly as they've lost Bob Barrar), and I really enjoyed his Schipperke Belgian session IPA.

I look forward to stopping back, but I'm not sure when that'll happen as I'm continually drawn to another brewpub on the other side of Germantown Ave. It's certainly worth a visit though!

I usually stop in here from time to time with a friend of mine who lives a few blocks away. The vibe is pretty nice, there is usually a good assortment of beers available. The food was good the one time I had some. Not a spot!

Food is good, beer is good, prices are good.

Nothing is phenomenal. 4's across the board for everything seems fair.

I've actually visited two Iron Hill Brewery's, the one in Media, PA and the one in North Wales, PA. I am impressed that they are able to maintain the quality of food and beer in more than one venue. They have a wide variety of beer for every taste. I recently tried "Juggernaut" which is an American triple that I really enjoyed, very drinkable, just the right amount of hops and citrus notes for my taste.

Their food menu is really superb for a brew pub. They offer something for everyone, from Vegan to Meat eaters, and a nice selection of seafood. I had their oysters on the half shell and really enjoyed their freshness. An Ahi Tuna big salad was excellent as well and included a lot of fresh vegetables. Their coffee is also excellent and though i didn't try any, their dessert menu looked inviting. The service is always good with friendly, efficient and knowledgeable staff. I would recommend this to any foodie and beer snob who is in the mood to go to a brew pub. You can buy growlers to go if you are so inclined.

Another goddamn Iron Hill, this one actually on a hill. I think that’s 9 locations now. Was here for the soft opening and once since (totally not my fault, my uber-amazing flatbread haunt wasn’t open for lunch). On a strip of parking suckiness, I always pass it, wait, there it is...

The place is, you know, similar to but different than the other 23.4 Iron Hill locations. Large front room, let’s see; black framed curvy corrugated hangerish ceilings, check; 2 tone beige & tan vertical striping, check; sprawling Iron Hill logo, uh huh; large boards listing cellar, fermentation, & upcoming seasonals, yep. Paneled windows up front over Germantown, with stars and Christmas play twisted in strung lighting nicely done. Block tile floorings around the bar, and wood slat floors out past there. Mesh cheese wheel chandeliers and spinnys across the room. Drop single lanterns over the off the bar window seating, some wall mounts, too, and track spots beamed. Flats in some corners and to the rear.

‘L’ wood bar on the far end with a slight lip, panel base, & piping foot rail; seating for just shy of a dozen and a half on highback chairs. 12 tap stainless steel box on the bar with non descript handles, and a second set down on the end for service station, plus a single handpump alongside. Barback is shimmery backed & inlayed baby spot framed boxings with booze & house bottles, in twos or threes or mores. Flats to both sides and vertical boards on the ends listing tap selections. A sizable growler filling apparatus sits countered and glassware shelved below. Growlers shelved on the far far end and the brewing process mural on the other end.

4 booths adjacent to the bar, and a handful more alongside the end in the windows. Nearly a dozen and a half hightops in rows and rows out across the floor; the ones on the far end sharing bench space. A few more booths in the front windows, and bar counter space along the far wall.

Off the bar area, a side room with upwards of a dozen and a half boos & tables, and a side side room, with the same but fewer. A row of shorty booths running the length along the brewroom windows, and another dozen booths on the far end, down past the weather vaned reception area, below the quintessential IH logo’d wall. Panel box framings separate room from room from room.

5 house standards (Iron Hill Light Lager, Vienna Red Lager, Ironbound Ale, Pig Iron Porter, Raspberry Wheat), a seasonal Belgian Ale (Belgian Pale Ale), 10 seasonal beers (Germantown Brown Ale, Lyle’s Bevy, Imperial Coffee Porter, Dortmunder, Munich Dunkel, Russian Imperial Stout, New World Pilsner, Hopswarm IPA, Grizzly IPA, Galaxy 500 IPA), and a single cask offering (Vanilla Imperial Porter).

Remember when a sampler got you everything? Yeah, well not anymore. I took tasters, samplers, & shortys of about half the lot (Belgian Pale Ale, had some nice Bretty Orvalesqueness; Lyle’s Bevy, an EPA, light sweetness, a bit festy; Dortmunder, Saaz spicy, quite good; Munich Dunkel, malty, not so roasty; New World Pilsner, butter bumb, ouch, it’s just off; Hopswarm, an IPA with honey, good citrus, light honey sweetness; Grizzly IPA, a Black IPA, roast, citrus, pine, very nice; Galaxy 500 IPA, a west coast IPA with Galaxy, also quite good). Belgian Pale Ale, Dortmunder, Munich Dunkel, Grizzly IPA, & Galaxy 500 IPA were the best of ‘em. And specialty house bottled selections for sale, as well.

And lunch, it being that time. Ed had a burger as Ed does and enjoyed it (does the bacon jam jam?), but commented, “It’s not the Alpine Burger” (that which he liked best, and they therefore removed it from the menu). I went with my usual Grilled Asian Chicken Salad (chicken, greens, grilled yellow & red peppers, avocado, mandarin oranges, toasted almonds, crispy wonton strips, ginger sesame vinaigrette & soy drizzle). Back in the day, they did this salad with tuna, which was just amazing. But I liked it, so they removed it from the menu to hurt me.

Our server was brain dead, or high, or short attention span theatre, or a combination thereof. I wanted sampler glasses, not baby tastes. I wanted all the beers I asked for, not just the ones you could remember to bring me. And where is Ed’s knife, the one he asked you for? The 2nd server reief guy was much better.

I like IH but don’t love the daisy chain like I used to. Still solid beer & food offerings but I’m just not that Pig Iron & pulled pork kid anymore. And setting up on other brewpubs (Chestnut Hill, and Ardmore comes soon), tsk tsk...

Feels like an Iron Hill upon entry, but much larger. Dark woods, brick and industrial feeling copper and iron accents. About 1/3rd of the front opens up to the street, a nice touch. 25-30 seat bar to the far left, 2 large HD TVs with a few smaller HD sets in various corners. Front are has lots of hightop seating in a central area with scattered boths and low tops. Back area features many more booths and low tops. Exposed brewing setup in back left corner, semi-adjacent to the bar.

Nice selection of a dozen or so beers available on tap and hand pump, not to mention bottles for sale. Standard beers are of a high quality but lean towards approachable. Seasonals and rotational beers will suit the craft enthusiast nicely with up to 6 available at any time. Can get samplers of either regulars or seasonals, choice of sizes for most beers (10-16oz) except high gravity seasonals, growler fills available for all from $13-$20.

Service was good... at the bar, 2-3 bartenders for a full bar at dinner time and plenty of servers all around. Looks like an Iron Hill, smells like an Iron Hill, tastes like an Iron Hill, all good.

Located along the strip on Germantown Ave, Iron Hill is large in appearance from the outside but looks more cloaked and laid back as the other locations are a bit gaudy.

Inside the appearance is the same as the other locations, just structured different. Dark shiny wood fills the walls with a nicely done up new floor. A huge bar area with plenty of tables to the left. Another semi huge dining area straight ahead, with some other more 'private type settings. Bathrooms all the way to the back with brewing area adjacent. I like the layout and there is plenty of space to move around.

Bar area is large, the actual wooden bar can seat about 25 easy with enough room for others to gather around. The site says 6 taps but there are much more, about 15 or so with a cask offering. Plenty of reserve bottles to pop open and take home. I had a Boo-Yah DIPA and a Russian Imperial Stout, both were excellent and clean.

Tap list consists of the reular year round offerings, a few seasonals, and a few special tapping beers for the grand opening I guess. I hope this place brews a Berliner Weisee. Since this spot is brand new, the lines are super clean.

Service was nice enough. I got to see what this place packs in on the weekends as it's built to house a zoo, with MAD tables, perhaps too many. There is probably 15-20 servers on weekend nights here. Out of all the Iron Hill locations, I think I will like this one the best, as it's the closest to my crib.

** I got into a physical altercation with a beer friend outside of this place, so I have to say, the beer here is kick ass**
