Blacked out pour. Awesome finger and a half mocha head. Smells boozy/roasty bakers chocolate. Tastes f'in great. Bourbon tobacco-ish. Feel is on point, just a little thinned out compared to the base beer, but that's usually natural. Solid medium to full body. Overall this is something you really need to seek out! Infinitely wish I had more.

500ml, Black with light brown head.

Vanilla, caramel, subtle bourbon in the nose.

The caramel, some vanilla continue in the flavor, nice bitter chocolate finish.

The barrel aging definitely improved the base beer.

I will be seeking out future releases of this.

Second tasting on 4/25/15

Picked up some chocolate and oak in the nose this time.
And some dark fruit, oak and brown sugar in the flavor.

previously noted characteristic still present.

I liked it even more this time, kicked my rating up a notch.

3/18/16 - 2016 vintage - 500ml bottle.

All previous notes still hold up.

Flavors are nicely balanced this year. Adjusted rating up again.

2016 bottle:

Marshmallow Fudge Brownie soaked in bourbon. A dose of plumb makes itself known as it warms. Big barrel has it's stamp all over this. This is among the best of the style. IMHO better than the Eclipse series, Parabola etc. Probably the only one I'd confidently say hold it's ground with Bourbon County Brand Stout. This will most likely by my unexpected beer of 2016. Highly, highly HIGHLY recommended if you can get your hands on or trade for this one. As a lover of what barrels add to stouts, I can't imagine this one getting any better with age. Beer doesn't get much better than this.

Got to get a try of this at Eureka Woodland Hills.

Pours a deep sienna brown pour, with an ivory head of frothy lace that settles quickly and doesn’t leave too much residual lace.

The nose gives off a lot of dark fruit.. subtle oak and roasty coffee balance out the profile. But a very nice, predominantly sweet nose on this stout.

The flavors are similar to the nose, introducing that sweet dark fruit first. More roasty coffee and malt however, and it lingers nicely. Well balanced.

Good medium body. Creamy mouthfeel, slightly sticky. Really well done stout.

This is a delicious BA Stout. Doesn't pour pitch black out of the bottle, but once in the glass looks as dark as the abyss. There's a small head that lingers around the rim of the glass; very little lacing, if any. Smell is oak, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, vanilla. Taste is chocolate bourbon with a nice medium mouthfeel. Great beer from Smog City.
