Notes: For over two years we have been collecting barrels big and small and filling them with beer pitched with custom blends of bugs and bacteria. Our patience has paid off and our first barrel-aged sour release is upon us!

THIS SOUR FUTURE is a red wine barrel-aged sour brown that serves as the introduction to the sour side of our barrel and blending program. The name is a nod to the direction that we see craft breweries moving, as well as a proclamation to what we hope the future holds for Smog City Brewing.

THIS SOUR FUTURE is balance in a bottle. Bright acidity is held in check by a solid malt backbone, while the subtle wine character is complimented by rich oak tannin. The harmony of this beer makes it special to us and an exemplary sour brown.

This is a limited release of 2000 bottles.

Bottle # 2196. Bottled 11/2015. Gusher off the pop. Pours a dull chestnut hue with a slight haze to the clarity. Head is fizzy and khaki-colored and quick disperses into a thin tight band around the edges. Nose expresses oak tannins and acetic acid. Taste consistent with nose; however, there's also some lactic notes. Finish is tangy. Mouthfeel is light in body with a lively carbonation and a mild astringency. Overall, not overly complex but drinkable.

A: Slightly sweet malt, a bit vinous, with a moderately clean sourness that lingers.

A: Amber color, lightly hazy, with a moderately low head with a touch of lacing in the glass.

T: Slightly sweet malt is offset by a moderate sourness and a light oak presence.

M: Medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation. There is a light acidity on the palette.

O: Pretty solid; the lightly sweet malt is a nice complement to the moderate sourness. Pretty refreshing to drink and sessionable.

Medium dark amber body, thin white head which dissipates quickly. Aroma is reminiscent of sour cherries, lactic acid, and a tinge of earthy undertones. Medium tartness but very smooth and crisp. Nice straight forward sour!
