On-tap at Stone Sour Fest

Pours a mahogany color with a khaki head. Mild vinegar on the nose with sweet dark fruit such as black cherries, a bit of grapes, and a fair amount of cola sweetness. A touch of grass and red wine, too. Nicely tart with a blend of acetic and lactic sourness. Definite cola flavor, red wine-like notes, and a bit of black cherry and currant, maybe a little bit of chocolate on the finish.

Smog city: Tempest (sour 8%)

L:Muddy wooden medium-dark brown with a violet hint.  Pretty opaque this sits with a haze about it.  Off white head forms a thin vail and leaves just a bit of lacing.

4

A:  steel, clean shined oak, tart cherry, hints of acetic acid( aged vinegar).

3.5

T:  high degree of acid and acetic acid but not unpleasantly so.  Its almost like pickled grapefruit or ruby red juice and white vinegar.
Sweeter yeast driven flavors of lush cherry and plumb fall in as well as a tame malty sweet milk chocolate suggestion.  A lasting Vinegar quality persists well into the finish giving this almost a salinity in the end (think grape coolaid pickles).

4

M:  sharp on the front and underside of the tongue, sticky on the back palate and surprisingly easy to drink.  Vinegar flavors but not the throat scratching effects of it.

4.5

O:  good stuff though a bit one sided.   That said I always love to see new breweries going right after complex sour beers so props for diving in.  Keep them coming.
