Quite smooth with an excellent floral finish. Breathing in the aroma after sipping is quite fascinating. The product was served as a draft with a slightly murky look and a semi-stable head.

I had this one on tap at a Los Angeles Chargers game. I was thinking about checking out their taproom before the game but never made it, so I was glad to still get to try some beer from them and it did not disappoint.

Strong floral hop aroma, you know it's an IPA even before you take a sip. Taste is a bit generic for an IPA, especially coming from a state dominated by the style.

1/25/16 (draft, Legends Sports Bar, Long Beach) Fruity esters are the first to hit the nose, hops are pretty balanced after first couple sips, really no harsh criticism here, solid offering (3.8)

Pale body with a tinge of gold, light haze and a light frothy head. Aroma is mainly citrus and tropical fruit, a hint of pine. Nice level of bitterness in the body, some sweet malt up front with a crisp finish. Nice IPA!

A pretty good offering from Smog City. Poured into a pint, golden-yellow with hints of orange. Smell is straightforward west coast IPA: some pine and citrus. Flavor is the same, with a focus on pine resin and citrus and tropical fruits, with a touch of honey sweetness to balance.

Serving type: on tap at the brewery

Pours a clear straw yellow. Smell is lacking of hops, very faint. Taste sadly reflects the smell. Minimal hop impact, fruit impact, or any flavor other than bitterness. This is disappointing, I love their other beers but this one fell short. Wouldn't turn it down if offered but I wouldn't buy it again.

Daily draft poolside at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, served in a 16 oz BioTuf plastic cup. Cloudy amber gold with a nice white foam head and streaky lacing (good for a plastic cup!). Caramel malt, grapefruit citrus and spice on the nose. Just enough malt body but not much sweetness; citrus rind and peel bitterness, slight pine and spice. Medium body and carbonation. A solid IPA with plenty of West Coast character, but drinkable enough to knock a few back in the hot, LA summer sun.

Pretty much the flagship beer from Smog
City. I prefer an Amarillo Gorilla or a Grape Ape, but this one will do in a pinch. Pleasant floral aromas with some fresh baked biscuits, this beer is very drinkable especially if you're a nutty locapour guy like me. The taste is pleasant but a little generic- there is some nice orange notes in the background. I could drink this all night. This one does slap you in the face with hops.

Appearance: pours an orange color with a 1/2" head that reduces to a thick surface covering. Spotty lace develos.

Smell: strong citrus is all you can pick up with the nose.

Taste: caramel, orange, grapefruit, mango, and a hint of earthiness. Bitterness is moderate and the flavors are nicely balanced.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Very crisp from start to finish. Some dryness arrives late. Long lasting citrus aftertaste.

Overall: an easy drinking IPA that captures that west coast feel. Worthy of a try.

On Tap at the Westwood Tavern in Westwood LA
Served in a house shaker pint glass - 01/11/14

A: Hop hazed and sunburst caramel orange body. Thin layer of paper white suds that fade out to a crown in only a few short moments. Light patches and dots of speckled lace decorate the glass.

S: Smells like another juicy west coast grapefruit bomb. Loads of citrus aromatics on this one with a touch of evergreens and some pale malt sweetness underlying. Dash of floral tropics in there. Really nice and fruity hop nose.

T: Grapefruit, pine, green melon, and light gooseberry come together with some very subtle cracker malt sugars. Relatively low amount of hop bitterness but lots of fruity flavors. Dash of restrained caramel malts. Alcohol is there but incredibly well disguised. Very nice balance and on point with the nose with good hoppy flavor.

M: Medium body with a nice even pop from the carbonation and a dry resinous finish. Moderate bitterness across the palate. Touch of oily linger after the drink.

D: This was my first go at Smog City and it was a memorable one. Better than I had hopped for and better than most IPA’s that flood the market these days.. Nice hop aromas and flavors with good balance. Recommended.

From tap to pint, poured at Toronado SD.

Another hop-forward west-coast style IPA, refreshing and satisfying if you're in the mood for a hop-fix, but if you live in SoCal, it's nothing you haven't had before.

A: Golden-tan in color, slightly opaque, the small wispy head leaves little patches of lacing.

S: Piny, citrusy, rind-y...touches honey-malts, yeasty. Straight-forward bouquet for the style.

T/M: Sharp, bitter, piny hops up front, vinous and oily. A medium complexion carries into a slight bready middle, with a salty undertone. Finishes with a touch of boozy warmth, somewhat short, leaning to the bitter side of the palate.

This was my first experience with Smog City. I had it on tap at Alpine Village no less!! Obviously not at Oktoberfest but inside the restaurant, yes a little older of a crowd but the beer was a flowing just the same! Very hoppy on the nose, probably one of the best smelling Ipa's I've had in a while. A little murky in its color but i don't mind an unfiltered beer. Takes away from the complexity. Very easy drinking ... need more. Please bottle soon!!!

Tried it on tap n Boneyard in Sherman Oak
Not large head, a little murky, not clear with orange overtones. Has a nice floral aftertaste, lot's of hops, but not overwhelming.. Easy on the palate, you can feel the yeast, but it is not offensive.. Easy to drink, can stick with it few repeats not like other IPA when two is more than enough.

The beer pours a clear golden orange with a nice white head. Citrus, mostly grapefruit, along with some pine. A nice bready malt aroma. It’s quite floral as well. Semi-sweet on the palate with plenty of bread flavor. There’s a hint of yeast, and the hop profile is very floral with a bit of pine, citrus peel, and mild grapefruit flavors. A very easy drinking IPA.

On tap at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank, CA.

Pours a clear light copper with a foamy tan head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, and some semi-sweet grapefruit juice aromas. Taste is much the same with a slight malt presence on the finish. There is a medium level of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice set of aromas and flavors.
