Decently organized, modern store in a strip mall. It excels with a fabulous selection of imports and some craft beer gems. Nice variety of local stuff as well. Service is unobtrusive and willing to help. Prices seem on par. Excellent bottle shop.

Hidden up in the Woodland area in Duluth. I always walk straight to the back to the cave. Right past the automatic sliding doors, I am greeted by a wall off bombers and fresh Surly on the top shelf. There is a good variety of six packs. Prices are on par with the area.
The staff is knowledgeable an friendly. I always find myself stand there talking for awhile after I purchase my beer.

My favorite place to go to for bombers and 750ml bottles.

This is a hidden gem in the Duluth beer scene. Tucked away in the woodland neighborhood by Mount Royal, near the intersection of Woodland Ave and St. Marie Street, this is not a place you’d stumble upon while out looking for beer. I didn’t discover it until killing time after school. When I checked it out I was amazed at the selection and quality.

A: It’s tucked into a small shopping complex and has the standard liquor store look, except at the back of the store is a walk-in cooler called “The Beer Cave”. Inside, it’s a delight. Surly, Bells, New Belgium, and a great rack of bombers right in the middle where you walk in, where great beer should be. I’ve not talked to the guy who keeps the shelves stocked, but he’s doing a great job making sure the best beers are in town.

Quality: Best of all, the stock rotates frequently so everything is always fresh, a problem found at some of the other ‘good’ beer stores in Duluth. No matter what, there’s fresh Furious, and when available Abrasive Ale. There’s also always something from New Belgium’s Lips-of-Faith series, and This is the only place in town that keeps these beers in stock! (edit: Warehouse carries them now) It’s really a joy to ponder which bomber to buy, instead of leaving the store with nothing, which I’ve done at some of Duluth’s other ‘good beer stores’.

Service: The service is good to. What the younger clerks lack in beer knowledge, they make up for in enthusiasm. When ever I buy some of their new bottles (and they keep bringing in new brands!) the clerk always asks me what I think about it, because they’re excited to tell other customers about it.

Selection: Awesome. Fresh, rotating, new beers, great oldies. What they lack for in the sheer volume of ok micro-brews they make up for in having the best selection of great high-end full-flavor “great beer”. This is a BA destination. Lips of Faith, Darkness, Five, giant stouts, big beers.

Price: The Beer Cave had The Best Price for Surly’s Darkness in the Duluth area. Well done, Beer Cave, well done!

Really, I’m astonished that I had to place this beer destination on BA in 2012. It’s a great place to find great beers.

Update: I just found that a manager, and a few of the workers are on BA, which explains why they have a great selection of good beer.
