Bare Hands Brewery

Best Brewery in the South Bend/Granger/Mishawaka area. Good variety of beer styles, that seem to be constantly rotating. Never had a bad beer here. When the pop up food options are available, it is usually very good. The recent outdoor seating is great addition.

Small but nice taproom. A bit dark, two tvs, small bar and some tables. Decent crowd. Fresh selection of ten taps. Better than a neighborhood brewery, but not quite a destination brewery either. But if I lived near by I would stop by all the time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Small local brew pub. Dark quaint space with a few locals hanging out. Decent selection on tap. I enjoyed the few beers I had but not worth going too far out of the way for.

My "go to" in South Bend, Bare Hands has a very "Bohemian" vibe going on, which I like. The service can be a bit spotty, especially if they're busy, but their beer ..... is sublime. They may be my favorite brewery in Indiana.

I don't say that lightly.

This brewery was stop #3 that my wife and I visited on a weekday just after they opened at 4pm. We were able to get the last seats at the small bar, but before we left the tables and chairs in the pub were also getting filled up. The brewery is located at the end of a dead-end street in a small industrial park, so it has to be a destination choice to come here.

We ordered a flight of the 8 beers ($13) that were on tap at the time, and were given an extra sample of a beer that was not yet on tap. The brewer here seems to like brewing beers to showcase a specific hop variety (Nugget Amber, Columbus Wheat, Mosaic DIPA, and Kiwi Express, which used New Zealand hops). A pint of a regular menu beer is $5, and the high gravity beers go for $6 for a 12 oz. snifter.

The beers were all very enjoyable and brewed right to the style for what they were listed as being. Each had its own special character that we really appreciated (none was an 'average' beer) so that it was difficult to choose which was our favorite that day. I rate the beers overall with a B grade.

This brewery is not listed here on BA as an Eatery, but that feature could be added. A panini sandwich is available now along with some snacks, but the bartender said they would be expanding the sandwich list soon. We had a pretzels and cheese snack, and it was good. I would have liked to linger here with a full pint of something, but our next (and final) destination of our pub crawl was waiting.
