On tap at Smokeless Joe.

Although this style, like good IPAs, is rare in Ontario, this was a bit of a disappointment. Certainly better than most local 'pale ales,' but since I'm reviewing this after sampling the fantastic new APA at Church Key this weekend, I know it's possible to do better.

Looked fairly typical for an APA, if a little darker (some red notes?) than some. Aroma was pretty good... very woodsy and cereal-bitter, with very little of the usual citrus.

Taste was a big letdown, and the only reason I give it a 3 is because it's still a step above other mainstream Canadian ales. However, the woody, astringent bitterness was overly aggressive, and there was an unpleasant aftertaste (like burnt grass) that really detracted.

Something's not quite right yet, but it's a step in the right direction!

As far as Ontario Pale Ale's go, this one was above average....A nice amber pour that seemed to be quite lively...obvious hops in the nose....my pint was served too cold at Smokeless Joe....having said that, once warmed up a few degrees i quite enjoyed this beer...what can be said, prominent in the hop catergory. A super-hoppy pale ale without being over the top or experimental...the name says it all "Hop Addict" but without losing marks for drinkablilty...malts were present here as well so the hoppiness didn't overpower this beer....found it to be reasonabley balanced and drikable...good fresh and lively mouthfeel...i liked it!

On-tap at BeerBistro.

This beer appears a clear medium amber hue, with one finger of foamy beige head, which leaves some webbed lace around the glass as it dissipates. It smells of caramel malt, and citrus and pine hops. The taste is grapefruit, orange, and a bit of pine hops, and soft caramel/toffee malt. The carbonation is on the mild side, the body medium weight, and a wee bit syrupy, and it finishes mostly dry, and hoppy.

An impressively balanced and tasty APA, very easy to drink.

golden yellow with bubbles. A whiff of C-hops. Good bitterness, significant hops and malted. Balanced though light-medium mouthfeel.Served on the too-cold side
Had it a couple of months later at a different bar and it was too bitter.

Had it a week later on cask and it's bitterness was like an ESB. Better appearance but worse on aroma as cheese and hops and malt.
Had more than a year later at Victory Cafe and liked the balance,m creaminess, and lace.

On tap at the Victory Cafe. One-finger frothy off-white head. Some lacing but not much retention (finally just a ring around the glass). The beer is dark-amber in colour.

There's almost no smell here. Some light bread and faint hops, sweet candy malt. Very weak.

There's something off here. I've had this beer a few times and remember liking it more than this. Maybe something is wrong, I'll have to come back to this one another time. There's an off flavour of dust or cardboard or something. Still, it's not that bad. Good dose of British-style hops, though nothing that would satisfy an addict. Seems to be just generally bitter instead of having a specific hop profile. Light sweet malt background. Almost tastes more like an extra bitter ESB than an IPA. Very English.

Prickly medium body and medium carbonation. Good feel.

I'll have to try reviewing this again, I seem to remember it being better than this. Although it certainly wasn't terrible. There's just not much going on in this beer besides an anonymous bitterness.

On tap at Victory Cafe.

Poured a deep amber colour with a small amount of white head.

Faint hop smell with some sweetness. Not an overly impressive nose.

Palate was bitter piney hops with a slight caramel malt backbone that gave it a little bit of sweetness. Bitter on the finish. I drank this thinking that it was a slightly weak IPA only to find out that it is a pale ale, which would make it a somewhat hoppy pale ale.

Light to medium body, moderate carbonation.

A very good beer. Nice to find a pale ale with some bitter hop bite.

On tap at C'est What. Has a clear orangish color. Nice lacing and retention. I thought this was a very well made brew.

Smells of citrus, grapefruit, a bit floral and some sweet malts.

Has a nice balance of malts (a little caramel) and bitter hops on the palate. A good drinkable beer from Durham.

Had this at Caffe Volo, what a great tap handle! (It looks like a syringe full of hops). Coppery red with an appropriate white frothy head, lots of retention and lace. Smell was a huge pile of cascade hops and a bit of malt that reminds me of Tankhouse. Taste was a very full yet refreshing blast of cascade hops and a nicely balanced malt profile. Nice and crisp and perfect for the patio, a beer I could drink until the patio grows dark and not get tired of.

On tap at C'est what? Copper liquid is topped with a frothy beige cap. The aroma is heavy citric hops(mostly grapefruit)with some pine, followed by bready, cookie dough and caramel. Taste is bright cirtus rind hops, fresh leafy greens and pine with some butterscotch and caramel sweetness. This is quite dry and chalky, and finishes bitter and and tasty. I wish it was available near me!

A: Clear, copper-orange; off-white head, only a little retention but it leaves a nice lace.

S: Fresh hops (floral, slight citrus); a little toffee & caramel, slight sulfur.

T: Fresh hops (floral/grassy citrus), slightly sweet (toffee) with a crisp, slightly bitter finish.

M: Light to moderate body and carbonation; slight acidic bite to the finish.

D: Quite drinkable.

On tap at the Cloak and Dagger.

A - Copper. Nice thick rocky head. Great retention.

S - Grapefruit, earthy esters. Grassy, sweet, bitter, beautiful.

T - bitter sweet followed by cloves and herbs. A nice balance. The sent of citrus hits the tongue. This is so full of flavor. Hoppy goodness!

M - modest body. A very easy drinker. A slight bite to it.

D - One of my favorites found on tap in the city.

Thumbs up!

Pours a clear orange/golden, thick medium sized white head, nice and creamy, some decent lacing and good retention. Smell is sweet caramel, with a citrus, pine, floral hop hit, plenty of grapefruit as well. Taste is caramel up front, crystal malt, huge citrus, grapefruit and floral, little bit of pine, nice clean bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, aggressive carbonation, nice and refreshing. Served slightly too cold at Smokeless, but a nice APA.

Pours an amber orange with a wispy eggshell head that vanishes quickly but leaves good lacing. The aroma is floral and citrusy with a good measure of malt dough. Sweet flavors are the first thing I taste. Orange blossoms and rocket candies come to mind. In the middle some grapefruit rind shows up as does a biscuity flavor. The finish is somewhat bitter, but could be a lot more. The mouthfeel is light with a soft carbonation.

This is an decent pale ale, I expected more hops though, and definitely less sweetness.
