Literally a port in a storm on my visit, the remnants of hurricane Isaac were passing over and I ducked in here to grab a quick bite. It was a cool old building with vintage neon signs and the interior was a fun time warp. There was a salad bar, lunch counter, and a small table up front showcasing the beer selection.

Service was prompt and friendly, I had a Weihenstephaner served with the proper glass. The beer was fresh too. Selection was around 20 bottles including Chimay, Goose IPA, Honkers, and Red's Rye. Rotating seasonals available.

Only tried an appetizer but it was pretty interesting, roasted tomato jam, feta, olives and pita. Lots of hearty dishes on the menu, and an old school dessert tray with a dozen pies. A good variety on the menu, including supper club style surf & turf - steaks, chops, seafood, southwestern Mexican, Italian, plus a few Greek specialties as well. I've heard they do a great ribeye steak.

There was a group in the dining room from New Zealand that were driving cross country on Route 66 in a neon blue convertible. Ariston is a fun pit stop if you appreciate roadside Americana and hearty food. There just happens to be a decent beer selection too, which is just icing on the cake.

(Visited 10/2011): Ariston Cafe is a historic spot (on the National Register of Historic Places) located on Old Rte 66 and Union. There is a decent-sized private lot.

The interior has table seating in the middle and a small counter bar. Decor touting the history of the place.

Ariston’s beer selection is relatively small but solid. All options are bottled and include Goose Island, Crown Valley, Schlafly, Sam Adams, Anchor and Founders. A couple other macros as well.

Service at the cafe is good. Friendly server without a lot of beer knowledge, which is to be expected.

The food menu is varied with Italian, salads, sandwiches, seafood etc. My food was good as was my colleagues’.

Overall this is by no means a beer destination but more an "any port in a storm" situation. All in all a friendly historic diner with some solid beer choices.
