This is described as an Imperial Belgian-style stout. Brewery says "Unrelenting began as our 2nd anniversary ale and is now an annual winter release." Interesting aroma of cocoa and the burnt sugar of black malt.

Nearly opaque dark brown-black with a decent beige foam in the glass. Very chocolatey and winey. It's the right balance among the sweet malt, blackened barley, and hoppy bitterness. Rich and tangy with an intense roasted malt that is clawed back from pure pleasure by the bitter charred taste. However, the complexity and moderate sweetness makes this quite sippable.

From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Beer Revolution in Oakland for thirteen bucks. It's a better deal that quite a few pricey brews I've bought lately.

Feb. 2, 2016 update - Same 2015 vintage, bought at the grimy Beer Rev in Oakland, probably been sitting in the cooler a year. But it's my favorite Bay area beer this year. Such nice yeasty Belgian character with a dry finish and the cocoa is just a whisper of bitter chocolate.

Aged one year at the brewer in their cooler. flavor is not too roasty, some dark and semi-sweet , smoth, and abv definately not present. Creamy and mellow mouth-feel. Pair with vanilla flavored desserts, beef stew, pot roast, or your annual Winter/Christmas celebration..food with no spice.

Bottled on date of (what appears to be) 12/19/16

Appearance - Pours Black with cola brown edging and a tan, two-finger width head. Good retention results in a thin, consistent layer of suds. Fair lacing, mostly consisting of small spots and broken lines.

Smell - Strong chocolatey aroma. Hints of dark fruit. Faint roast.

Taste - Punchy flavor combo of dark milk chocolate and mild dark fruitiness up front; the bottle says plum, and I'd say that's an apt description, with maybe a hint of fig. Mid-taste follows with a light roasted malt edge. A bit of copper-like metallic character rings beneath. It dissipates as the brew warms, though it never goes away completely. Sometimes it's there, and sometimes it's not. The finish is chocolatey and slightly tart, while the aftertaste brings with it a touch of roasted bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low-to-fair carbonation. Silky, creamy texture makes this a smooth pleasure to drink with a stupid easy finish.

Overall - A solid impy stout offering from Track 7. I was ready to call it one of the better local offerings I've had per the style, but that intermittent metallic note is hard to ignore. There's no denying its smoothness though, or its other flavor qualities. Perhaps a fresh sample is warranted to ensure this isn't due to improper storage before I purchased it.
