Anchor Saison™ Spring Ale is a traditional Belgian-style saison with a California twist. The distinctiveness of roasted Belgian wheat malt is enhanced by the peppery, clove-like flavors of a locally cultured saison-style yeast. And, for this release, we chose three California ingredients—lemongrass, lemon peel, and ginger—whose synergy adds a tangy crispness and herbal spiciness to this sharply refreshing, uniquely Californian saison.

From cervezasespeciales. In Teku glass. At dinner, with sausages sandwich. After futsal match. Best usage of ginger ive found, subtle but adding it refreshing notes and personality without losing saison character. Very nice foam but dissapears quick

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a nice looking hazy amber color with a light carbonation seen rising to fill a quickly dissipating head. No lacing. The smell had a crisp sweet fresh blend of citrus to grassy hops. Bready yeastiness combines to wrap it together. The taste starts off bready and leads to the sweet blend of citrus to grassy hops. Low bitterness all around. Sweet sticky aftertaste leads to a sweet grassy finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat subdued but still good for me and for the style. Overall, this was a pretty good seasonal saison that I would have again.

Clear, but a lot darker than most saisons, more of an amber color. A bit of a lemongrass aroma. Tart up front, changing to notes of yeast and toasted malt. Very clean feel. Lingering yeast finish.

Appears a peach-toned orange, simply gorgeous, somewhat clear but opaque enough to seem metallic. Soft and gentle head of light yellow, lower moderate retention. In bottle, smells roasty and spicy. After pour, tons of booze and phenols that give way in time to light spices and apple-like fruitiness, some yeast and wheat character. More like certain Strong Belgian Darks and Pales than the average American take on the Saison. Haven’t had any actual Belgian Saisons yet. Palate packs a punch. Semi-tart backdrop to an otherwise very spicy and toasty/grainy beverage. Tartness is akin to pears but also the smallest amount of vinegar. Definitely detect the lemongrass and ginger that the label mentions. Some dry white wine qualities that blend well with the lemongrass. Not sure if this has much in the way of hops, but I suspect they were mostly unnecessary given the presence of yeast-spiciness and brewing spice, especially the very hop-like lemon peel. Clove-like yeast spiciness is there in the back, but lost everywhere else. Retro-olfaction consists of cloves, lemongrass, sweet grain, smokey phenols, and various types of peppercorn. Light to medium in body, with appropriately delicate creamy effervescence.

Amber color with a thick off-white head with good retention.
Aroma with notes of bread, ginger, toasted malts, lemongrass and cloves.
Flavor with notes of ginger, lemon peel, mild booze, lemongrass, wheat malt, white pepper, green pepper and cloves. It is slightly toasted. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light to medium body with effervescent carbonation. Alcohol of 7.2% is felt a bit.
This Saison sure delivered the stated ingredients, not sure it ended up being very harmonic. I didn’t feel much the Belgian yeast as usual, but lots of phenolic spices. And you sure need to like ginger, which was a bit overdone.

Slightly hazy orange color with a bit of white head. Aroma has malt sweetness, some yeast spice and orange flavor. Taste starts with yeast spice, malt sweetness, a bit of sugar and some fermented citrus fruits. Body is on the light side, quite dry, with medium carbonation. Overall it's a decent beer but for my taste it's a bit too sweet for a saison.

Burnt orange body, clear, yellowish velvety head, plentiful spots and streaks of lace. White pepper, herbs like rosemary and licorice on the nose. The taste is mostly peppery, with some lemon and mint thrown in there, and even a woody tree bark-like element. Medium body, with solid, yet refined, carbonation.
A pretty good saison, it had a very good range of unique flavors, I just with they had been a bit stronger- the white pepper really ran away with this one.

Appearance: Pours a clear copper color capped by a two finger head; decent retention with squiggles of lacing all over the glass

Smell: Not quite lemon pound cake in its sweetness (perhaps a bit breadier); banana, white peppercorn and a hint of ginger

Taste: Bread and bubblegum, with lemon and banana tones developing; yeasty phenols, white peppercorn and ginger flavors arrive, in the middle; and the herbal aspect grows in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall; I like the creative twists the craft beer movement presents but in this case the marriage of California with Belgium is a relationship where each should have stayed in their own location

Thanks, kevindp9, for the opportunity
