12oz bottle into a nonic pint.

A: Pours a fairly vibrant gold/orange with 1/2" loose white head that recedes quickly. Retention is exceptionally good, lacing is below-average.

S: Notes of tropical fruit & a distinct mustiness cut through strong & almost sweet bready maltiness. Maybe a small trace of peppercorn-like spice as well. It's very straightforward, but pleasantly pungent.

T: Comes on with lemon & lime rind set against bread dough. The mid palate is maltier, revealing an almost-sweet fresh-baked-bread note. This continues into the finish only to be punctuated by a flurry of bittering hops, which ultimately create an urgent (yet unbelievably well-balanced) finish overall.

M: Moderate carb married to a slick body. Fits the brew, just nothing special.

O: One of the better IPAs to have passed my lips in a while. I'm pleasantly surprised by this one.

Appearance: Pours a hazy amber color with an impressive head; excellent retention and lacing that leaves strands behind

Smell: The bitterness wafts from the glass; very pithy with spruce tones

Taste: The bready malt sets the base with the pith and the spruce building powerfully through the middle; aspirin-like bitterness through the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: I have a lot of respect for what Anchor has done over the years but I note how they refused to chase the IPA trend for a long time; now that the most popular IPAs are moving in a different direction with the use of Mosaic, Citra and antipodean hops, here is an IPA that would be right at home in 2010; not sure why it occurred to Anchor to brew a beer like this in 2016; it is good for what it is but what it is is not what I look for today

This is a fine IPA, but the entity was a bit too bitter for my liking. The hops add a lot of pine and citrus, but I like my IPA's more complex with flavours like flowers, grapefruit and peach. Then again, if you like your beers bitter without a lot of fruitiness, this could be the IPA for you.

I had the California Pack of cans. Unfortunately I wasn't a fan. My fav was the Lager and I don't drink lagers.
L: The can is cool, I didn't poor.
S: At first I picked up a bit of deet bitterness. Then I picked up some malts and hops. Mild pine and citrus.
T n F: This reminds me of something old school. It has the bitterness of the hops but no good flavors for me. It is what I think they meant by bitter beer face. Sorry.
Overall: I just didn't like it, too old school maybe.

12 oz bottle, w/o freshness info that I could find

Pours clouded medium amber, respectable looking fine light khaki froth, film, collar and fine spotted lacing.

Sniff of heavy grapefruit

More then moderate IPA with plenty of grapefruit juice, pith and character flowing thru...

Nice IPA from a classic USA brewery, nice to see Anchor brewing a few new things every once in a while...well worth a try

A golden orange hue with a fingers worth of foamy white head. The smell has a good amount of biscuit from the malt as the citrus scent comes through at the back end. The flavor is the exact same, you get malt upfront balancing a good amount of hops that hit you right after. The feel is medium and dry with decent carbonation. This is an excellent IPA by Anchor. I will easily finish this six pack.

35cl bottle. Clear orange pour with a decent looking white head. Smells like a typical west coast IPA - citrus, tropical fruit and some honey. Medium body, soft mouthfeel, taste notes of honey, grapefruit, salt, subtle tropical fruit and alcohol.

S: Some resiny hops, rich biscuit, light fruit and a light herbaceous smell.

L: Bright amber with rapidly rising bubbles under a well formed, rocky cream colored 2.5" foam collar with good retention.

T: Very creamy, slightly sweet attack with citrus, orange, fruit, and biscuit that guide the flavors to an assertive citrus rind bitterness that dries the beer out and lingers pleasantly.

F: Medium body and medium to medium high carbonation.

O: This is a decent, easy to drink beer.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Big two finger white head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A juicy and grassy hop forward aroma with a scent of citrus and pine. Citrus hop hints of orange peel, grapefruit, lemon zest, and pineapple. Some earthy hints of grass and pine resin. Pale malt hints of caramel, grains, and cracker along with yeast. A pretty solid aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a nicely juicy and grassy hop forward taste with notes of citrus fruit and pine. Juicy citrus hop notes of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, lemon zest, and pineapple. Earthy and floral hop notes of pine resin and grass. Backing pale malt notes of caramel, grains, and cracker with some yeast. A solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, drying, and smooth.

Overall: A pretty decent West Coast syle IPA. Nice citrus and grassy hop flavor.

A 12oz can with a BB of Jan 2019. Purchased recently from ASDA. Label features a hairy elephant.

A: Poured into an IPA glass. Appears to be can conditioned. A deep, hazy amber colour with plentiful carbonation and fine suspended sediment. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a minute or two before subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Slight lacing.

S: Aroma of spicy, grassy hops with hints of herbs, grass/hay, leafiness, stewed hops, earthy yeast, mild caramel malt and a touch of solvent in the background. Pretty good, though the hop profile is unusual for a US-brewed IPA.

T: Tastes of grassy aromatic hops with notes of herbs, spice, grass/hay, leafiness, stewed hops, earthy yeast, esters, vague caramel malt and a resinous quality in the background. Quite dry, followed by a robust hop-driven bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and good body. Hop oils tickle the palate. Aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops, grass/herbs, subtle resin, earthy yeast and faint malt.

O: A pretty good IPA, even if the hop character is unusual. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are grassy, spicy and herbal with yeasty undertones. Underpinned by subtle malt. Nice body. The hops come across as noble or old world varieties used in high quantity, which is surprising but interesting. Goes down readily enough - worth sampling.

Big off white lasting head that leaves a bit of lacing clinging to the sides of the glass with this bright orange-golden colored IPA. Initial hoppy aroma fades as the beer sits a bit. A dry tasting beer with a very light dry hops taste without anything in particular standing out.

Let me at least say, this is a beautiful glowing bright orange beer that held excellent head retention and lacing. Active in the SN/DFH Wine glass with a handle at the bottom. Forgot the rediculous name for it. Best looking filtered IPA I can remember seeing in quite some time.

Coming from Anchor as a IPA, this is a solid beer. Pithy orange rind and some mango. Pretty bitter. It does open up noticeably quite a bit as it warms. Not a hit, but not a miss either. Don't come in with expectations and you will be pleased. Thank you Anchor for straying from your house profile.
