Served in a pint glass.

Appearance: Light golden color, white head with some lacing. Very clear.

Smell: Not much hops present, only a citrusy tartness.

Taste: The primary taste here is citrus. Tastes a bit like a hefe weizen. Unfortunately, there isn't much more. It's mostly like lemon water. Even with all of this, I still found it refreshing.

Mouthfeel: Thin to medium body, very carbonated.

Drinkability: Very refreshing and easy to drink.

Although I would classify this as a refreshing beer, it's probably only because I was drinking it outside in the sun on a warm day. This reminded me a bit of lemon water, which is great in the right setting, I was just expecting more.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume II, Issue V:

Anchor proclaims their Summer Beer the first American Wheat in modern times. First brewed in 1984, they started bottling this beer in 2002. It's brewed with a 50/50 split of malted barley and wheat, so you know you'll notice the wheat unlike other beers that have "wheat" in the name.

Thick, hearty white head looks like it does not want to subside, a pretty amazing appearance. Clear, dull golden color. The aroma is of lemon cookies, fresh baked wheat bread and delicate wildflowers. Just enough crispness and more than enough smoothness, very refreshing. Moderately-sized body. The slight lemon and a fresh herbal hop flavor and fermented wheat twang combo let the taste buds know that even a summer wheat can be a little complex. Dry biscuit and dried grass flavors come from the malt and hops middle to end. Finishes very clean and on the dry side.

This is "Summer Wheat Ale" done right, high regards for this seasonal, and it is a session beer to boot!!

Crystal clear bright gold topped by a large, off-white, somewhat frothy, big-bubbled head. The cap of foam is firmer and stickier than the vast majority of wheat beers and leaves a nice amount of lace in substantial chunks. The aroma is more 'slightly skunked lager' than 'wheat beer' according to my nose. I don't appreciate much citrus, a flavor that I usually find appealing in a summer beer.

Uh, where's the flavor? This beer is so light on the taste buds as to be nearly nonexistent. I'm really having a difficult time describing the flavor due to a lack of it. Summer Beer may be the weakest, least flavorful non-light lager that I've ever had.

I suppose I could say that it's balanced, in the same way that both sides of an empty scale are at equal heights. The body actually isn't that bad; it isn't overly thin in the mouth and the carbonation seems about right. It's drinkable, but then so's water.

Weak, weaker, weakest. Anchor may have brewed the world's first anti-beer, the beer world's answer to a photographic negative. If you don't see Summer Beer in your favorite beer store, try not to remember that I told you not to try it, unless you don't want to that is. Or not.

Of all the Anchor beers out there, this is the plops! ..Pours an uninspiring haze with low foam... Taste is refreshing but lacks any character! Not much else to say except that i wasted my money on a whole sixer! Pass on this and get a real beer! shame!

An easy drink, great slightly chilled for summer. Creamy wheat mouthfeel.
Very frothy though temporarily. Malty and lemon twang with citrus hop and grass and fruit aroma. Thin but like Anchor. Above average carbonation. Crisp, clean, and bitter aftertaste.

pours a light clear yellowish orange. massive fluffy head.

light wheat, malts, and floral hops.

light and refreshing. nice dose of zesty floral hops with a slight bitterness, VERY slight. light wheat and malt carry on through out.

medium body with moderate carbonation.

this is pretty easy drinking, in fact, VERY easy. nice low ABV and light refreshing taste make this perfect for summer.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance - Light golden hue and very clear. Very thin almost unnoticeable head with heavy lacing and a good amount of carbonation. Lack of head could be from oil in glass.

Smell - Very faint scent of grass, straw, certainly not overwhelming. Malted wheat scent is apparent but not strong.

Taste - Extremely Light, bright wheat flavor with a mild hop kick. Malt is present but not overwhelming. A nicely balanced wheat beer.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium body. Refreshingly crisp, almost like an American light lager with significantly more taste.

Overall - Very enjoyable and refreshing. I am not usually a wheat beer drinker, but this one is very good. I like that this beer is not the traditional unfiltered, heavy wheat beer to I come to expect. Indeed this is a great summer beer and one that I would try again.

Paid $7.99 for a six pack.

A rather disappointing showing from the usually solid folks at Anchor. Pretty in the glass, a very light wheat beer. Almost tastes infected/metallic. Tastes like it came out of a can, or was sitting warm somewhere for a year.

Still, I paid for it, so I'll drink the other 5. Hopefully it'll get better.

Anchor Summer has a faded John Deere yellow color and a one finger white head. It looks just like what I expect a summer beer should look like. It has a heavier nose than I would have expected. The slightest hint of lemon tickles my nose. The citrus comes out in the first sip leaving some coriander on the tongue. There is some grainy wheat on the finish that lingers. I wish it had a little more UMPH! on the flavor. This is still one of the better summer beer out there.

12oz bottle into SA perfect pint glass.

A: Pours a light golden color with about a finger of bright white dense fluffy head that slowly reduced down into a fuzzy scum leaving great lacing after every sip.
S: Smells lightly of wheat and sweet malt.
T: Light flavors of wheat and dry roasted grains. A touch of lemony citrus can be tasted as well. Malted barley adds some clean sweetness in the finish that balances the grainy wheat taste.
M: Very clean, crisp and refreshing. Definitely a summer beer. Body is medium-light and carbonation is frothy and tingly.
D: One of my favorite summer sessionalbe beer. A clean and easy to drink beer with good flavor and no bitterness. Great on a hot day or with a meal.

Again, this is one of those beers that does well when its a bit chilly and the day is hot. I'm typically not a fan of wheat beers, but this one does alright--for its appropriate summer heat. I'm not sure I'd be fan of this beer in other climates. The beer is apparently made in San Fransisco, which to me is odd, if only for the sense I have that this beer would fail my palate miserably in the bay area. I think its and mild success, but on accident.

Outside of its appropriate context, I'd steer away, but feel free to enjoy in front of a summer game.

Got ahold of this one late in the season but I am always willing to try an anchor beer.

Pours a clean dark straw color with a thick slightly off-white head. Smell is fairly faint with bits of grass and floral hops that are barely noticable.

Sweet and clean with a dry finish that is a little spicy. There are slight fruity esters from the anchor ale yeast. Hops blend well and are not very noticable. It is a bit malty and this works well. Body is medium but a bit chewy from the 50/50 wheat to barley mash.

Almost seems like a kolsch for this wheat/summer ale. Not bad but really not the special. Refreshing and I wonder if I would appreciate this more given the correct season.

I wanted to like this beer in that Ive loved everything else from these guys and thought it was just maybe the 07 I didnt like, but not a fan again.

12oz stubby Anchor bottle poured into pilsner glass.

A: Fluffy head on top of clear yellow. Oddly enough for this 'wheat', head went away fast.

N: Nothing to the aroma. Minimal if any hopes and no wheaty tones at all.

T: Some wheat I guess, but not really. Some hops as well but just a boring tasting beer. Would have liked a lot more flavor.

M: Smooth but watered down. Not crisp at all and just left nothing to want more of. A wheat?

D: Dissapointed again. Bland and boring. Easy to drink many but not much pleasure out of it- so many better options out there. Heading back to the Weinestephaner.
