Liberty IPA is our reimagining of craft-brew classic Liberty Ale, envisioned through the lens of today's IPAs. We first brewed Liberty Ale in 1975, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride. This revolutionary forerunner of the modern IPA introduced America to the Cascade hop and the nearly lost art of dry-hopping. Like it's processor, Liberty IPA is made with two-row pale malt and Cascade hops. It is the combination of Cascade with new hop varieties - in both brewhouse and cellar - that creates the mouthwatering complex and robust aromas of pine and citrus in this crisp, American-style IPA. The label, like Liberty Ale's, features a bald eagle, whose symbolism runs deep for all Americans including Native Americans. "A very great vision is needed," thought Crazy Horse, and the one "who has it must follow it as the eagle seeks the deepest blue of the sky."

Not much flavor; reminds me of the 'session' IPAs, many of which just seem like watered-down IPAs. The listed IBU rating illustrates just how unreliable that number is: this beer does not correlate to others I've had in the same IBU range.

From notes 6/2/13: Pours a clear honey gold, producing 2 fingers of white, frothy, moderately lasting head that leaves chunks, webs and streaks of lace. Aroma is citrus, floral and grass hops in a sweet malt background. Taste is delicate caramel malt, citrus and grassy hops with hints of apricot or peach and a little tropical fruit in the background. The sip is very balanced malt sweetness and hop bitterness with only slight deviation from start to finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, smooth with only a little prickly bite.

Pout a golden hazzy amber with kahki foam. Hoppy very dry Ipa with touch of citrus - not for the faint of hoppy heart. Good summer time 4th brew Ha Ha for the IPA folk.

Slightly hazy, bright amber body; rocky, sticky white head; lots of crystallized foam along the inner portion of the glass. Mostly heavy, sweet malt aroma. Mild cereal grain sweetness; esters; balanced hop bitterness throughout. Primarily heavy body; dense and creamy; mostly dry finish.
This beer seems like a solid, classic IPA. It is subtly balanced and is neither a west coast hop bomb nor a newer hazy IPA in nature. It's more malt-forward than anything. The hops deliver mostly a bittering quality to the beer and don't give much to the aroma. Old-school in character, approachable and delightful.

From a 12oz bottle. Cloudy orange with a finger of white head. Citrus smell. Medium feel. Tastes of citrus and biscuit, a little bit sour at the end. Having tried both, I think the original Liberty Ale is better.
