Brewed by:
Anchor Brewing Company
California, United States

Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.60%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
With deep black color, a thick, creamy head, rich chocolate, toffee and coffee flavors, and full-bodied smoothness, Anchor PorterĀ® is the epitome of a handcrafted dark beer.

A blend of specially roasted pale, caramel, chocolate, and black malts, along with our top-fermenting yeast, creates complexity without bitterness. The brew is hopped at a high rate, and naturally carbonated. The result is dark in the glass, but surprisingly light on the palate.

A: very dark rootbeer with a 2 finger rootbeer head. slow and few micro columns of carbonation.
S: Coffee malt syrup, shortbread dough, with caramel
T: Kinda hoppy for a porter, which gives it a kick, the burnt quality porters have is below average leaving room for actual flavor to exist.
M: The microcarbonations gives it padding, relatively soft and smooth
O: Nice porter, not my style but I respect this one.

This beer was poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance- This one has three-fingers of dense and puffy head the color of root beer float foam. There are some giant bubbles on the cap. The body is pitch black with some carbonation columns. It has good head retention with random streaks of vertical lace.

Smell- Wow! This has a huge buttered toast scent. There is a slight sweetness derived from the malt too. It is kind of candied cherry sweet. There is some roast as well, but the butterey toast is the biggest profile.

Taste- The same buttered toast hints on the nose is really strong on the palate. There is also a little sweet alcohol tang that rides from mid-drink to the finish. You can add a little roasted note by mid-drink.

The finish is strong with porter char and earthy malt notes. This one is very good.

Mouth feel- This is a good medium bodied to full drink. It is not as creamy as it could be, but it still manages to glide really easily over the tongue.

Overall- This is a great porter. The toasted malt flavor really comes out and sets this porter apart as something special.
