Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.60%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Blended in collaboration with our longtime friends Beth and Craig Wathen, Southern Sunrise pays tribute to the Wathens and their 10 years of innovation in San Francisco. A barrel-aged saison at its core, the late addition of Georgia’s favorite fruit lends a modest, yet juicy, peach finish to this smooth beer. We encourage you to share Southern Sunrise with good friends while you celebrate the sweetness of friendship and the love of beer. Sante!

750ml bottle. Served in a snifter glass. Pours a yellow body with a fair orange hue, one finger white head, lots of retention, not much lacing. Smell is peach fuzz, slight grain, mild funk, a bit of bleu cheese and oak, mild lactic acidity, and stone fruit. It's really not unlike West Ashley as I remember it. It has a good peach presence, but even lighter so than West Ashley. Interesting. Flavour is a nice complex mixture of lactic acidity, stone fruit, peach skins, funk, and even a little bit of that funky bleu cheese. It's more of a Cellarman type than West Ashley, I think. Wonderful, tasty profile. Mouthfeel is medium-lighter bodied, a bit soft and creamy, good carbonation with a slight tart peach skin finish to it. A smaller version of West Ashley, but with more of the saison funk you expect from Cellarman, so it's a net win.

A: Ripe peach flesh, giving way to moderate fruitiness, light funk, with a moderately light lingering sourness.

A: yellow orange color, hazy, with a moderate white head that has solid retention.

T: Peach upfront, combination of fruity flavors, slightly juicy, light funk, coupled with a faint spice and oak, moderately light lingering sourness and dry finish.

M: Medium light bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: Excellent; amazing balance between fruit and base beer (saison) and sourness.

This beer basically tastes like West Ashley. The fruit swap between apricot and peaches was not overly noticeable. Very good overall but nothing life changing.

This was pretty incredible, I prefer this to West Ashley. It's very similar to that, I just think what they've done with the peaches stands out just a little more. One of the best uses of peaches in a beer outside of de Garde.

Had a couple different pours from different bottles at a share. Bit of difference between the bottles. One was blue cheese funk, peach fuzz amazingness. The other was much more fruity and had a subtler funk, still delicious. Nose was bright on both, great mouth feel. This is 80% Capitola Sunset and then some other components, per a conversation with Adair. They also used peach puree since it was done out of season. As previously stated, SARA can do no wrong.
