Bottle Date: growler 6/5/16
Palate Contaminants: none
No bottles at SARA on a Sunday, so I did what I could to carry something out of there.
Appearance is a slightly opaque light gold. Not much head, but that don't mean nuthin'.
Smell is grainy and malty. I'll go with whole grain bread. Smells like the perfect beer for a plain old lunch sandwich with turkey, lettuce, and mayo. A little floral, too.
Taste also carries the malt and floral essences, but also adds in some lemon zest. It could almost pass more as a hefeweizen than saison to me. I know wheat is only one of the four grains in this one, but rye is the only other one I can pick out. Taste isn't too heavy, isn't too light, but it weighs just right.
Feel is pretty light. Carbonation is fine and light to moderate. The aftertaste certainly lingers in the back of the mouth, though.
I also sampled Forest for the Trees and Human Kindness while I was there, but neither of those were available for growler fills. On site, I'd take one of those again, but for carryout, I picked this one over Artificial Horizon after sampling. I wish I lived in Santa Cruz...
