Have been here a few times now since the new regime and it looks like they are serious about offering at least a few decent craft brews on an ongoing basis, and that's great for this general vicinity where little else is so close to Waterbury/Watertown/Southbury here in Connecticut. I've only had their pizza so far, but that's because it's so damn good that I don't want to experiment on any other choices. It's really as good as any other in the area. This place used to make decent pies under the previous ownership but this new incarnation is notably better yet. As for the beer, as Ohoove has pointed out, it's not quite a beer destination at this point, only a few decent craft brews at any particular time, but give them time, cause it appears they intend to add taps and bring more of the craft brew on board. They've already captured a couple of the bigger craft guys and they've added some regular stuff from the locals including New England (Ghandi Bot with your pizza!!!), Olde Burnside (Ten Penny Reserve with your salad and spinach dip!!!) and Cavalry. Really not a bad start at all. So far the quality of the beer seems very admirable. Let's hope they keep 'em coming and keep those lines clean. Service is friendly and pretty decent overall. They seem enthusiastic about the beers but I don't know that all of the staff really embrace the beer jargon and radicals like myself. But at this point there isn't an awful lot to discuss anyway. You shouldn't need too much help until they get a little more carried away on the selection. The atmosphere here is definitely family style although the barroom can get a little active with the locals. There are televisions in the bar area along with a few booths and some tables, but it can get crowded pretty fast, and very noisy. Then there's the restaurant side which is similarly smallish but offers a non-bar, pizza place environment. And finally, there's a back room for more remote dining at tables and booths. This area is sometimes reserved for private parties but typically is available for those who can't fit anywhere else. Other than the bar, the atmosphere is pretty dry. Clean and okay for dinner with the kids, but nothing particularly attractive. Eating your pie in the bar is best if you're okay with the noise levels. Kudos to the effort here and i plan on being a regular for a long time to come.

Update as of June 2013: the number of taps is now up to 20-ish and the selection has become very good with some local representation as well as plenty of micros from all over the US. Good variety of styles including a decent number of big beers. It's definitely a legit beer bar now and the pizza remains outstanding, but the service can be a problem. They're generally friendly and the owner, Theo seems to be a great guy who wants you to be happy, but the staff just doesn't understand the beers except for maybe a couple of the guys. Even the bartenders do not appear very appreciative of, or knowledgeable about the fine beer selection. And the crowd can definitely make things a little uncomfortable unless you're one of the younger crowd that just wants to congregate with their friends and do shots. It's the best place around for us beer nuts but it does have a little room for improvement.

Ugh...The service is worst than it has ever been. Last time I was there I had a bug in my beer and the the chicken i ordered was pink. You would think that would result in at least a visit by management, but they couldn't of cared less. That really pissed me off so I complained. After that I was told they would take 5% off my bill...what a joke. Too bad this town has so little options or this place would be under.

From purely a beer standpoint they do an outstanding job on their variety and constant rotation of different craft beers. Their selection is outstanding but can be pricey depending on your selection. However, since this area is lacking in beer centric restaurants it has been my go to place to get a craft beer on draft. I agree with some of the other postings in regards to the staff’s knowledge of what they are serving, but I find that to be a trend with most establishments. It’s a shame and a real gap that could make the overall beer experience at P&Ps even better. The food is pretty good but the service can once again get in the way of the experience. My recommendation is to go in and have a couple of drafts and then get your food to go.

ok, its been well over a year and its time to re review Pies and Pints. I gave the selection a 3.5 because it s good ( better than okay but not outstanding ). Everything else speaks for itself...just okay nothing special. I frequent P & P semi regularly, usually on Fridays after work to unwind over a good craft beer and P&P dosen t disappoint in that aspect. I consider myself pretty " beer snobbish "so I know what I m looking for and I also know what to expect from the many different style, that being said, I ll get right to the point. The staff,at least the ones I have dealt with, have no clue about the products they are serving, I once saw a bartender offer DFH 120 to a woman who wanted to try some thing "light and drinkable." I keep torturing my wife and myself and I keep returning just to be extremely disappointed by poor service....every time. The food, when the order dosen t get fouled up, is okay but the service always ruins my trips to Pies and Pints.

Nice addition to the Middelbury area.

Beer selection has a nice rotating mix of various draughts. Mix of both local, US and International. About 25 taps. They do have about 5 to 8 dedicated to MBC beers but had Stone Enjoy By and NEBCO Sea Hag on last trip.

Food is solid. Pizza is comparable to the area and the grinders and salads are tasty and a good value.

Atmosphere is good for bar crowd or Friday night pizza with kids.

Service is the problem. Long wait times for food. Service staff is not knowledgeable about beers. I have been short poured on at least one occasion. 8oz serving of BCBS as opposed to advertised 12oz. Granted they apologized and made up the difference but it took 4 conversations.

summary. Great beer selection and solid food option but service could be downfall. The servers need to be more attentive and know their beer options of you will sell it effectively.

Great new place. New onwers have turned it to a great pub. Beer selection is getting better and better. 26 draft lines all craft like Stone, dogfish head, local beers like 668, farmington valley, Calvary and many others available. There is something for everyone on the menu. Great burgers by far!!!! Specialize in wings (25 combination) Pizza also available.
Five tvs for sports fans.
It is a must for all locals and not only!!!
