In no way is this as good as indicated by the ratings. Yes, it is a decent Canadian version of the style, but it is still just "a" version. Way too carbonated and is it ever silly expensive for a domestic!
Nonsense. Try it once and then move on.

Finally getting around to enjoying this very highly regarded IPA after a long week (so far) of work. 750 ml bottle served above fridge temperature and served into a pint glass. Bottling date is December 16, 2015. Purchased 3 bottles (now only 2 left) each for $11.80 CDN from various LCBO's. This bottle is advertised as 9% per LCBO coding.

Appearance - Brilliantly clear, massive amount of bubbles form in the glass and rise up to the top. Even a gentle pour yields two plus fingers of brilliant white head leaving cascading lacing rings everywhere.

Smell - Truly Belgian in charcter with a massive yet not overwhelming powdery yeast nose. Some banana, and a subtle but not insignificant amount of spicy and citrusy hop aroma. Top notch stuff. Other fine grains and traces of caramel linger too.

Taste - Big and boozy at first, there's a bit of a harsh alcohol booziness lingering in behind. The hops are certainly present turning a fine Strong Belgian Pale into another monster with added bitterness and a more earthy than expected bite. It's some nit pick as this ale is very tasty and quite easy to drink, but compared to my initial impressions, just short of the hype. Nonetheless taste improves as it warms,

Mouthfeel - Super carbonated as is par for the style, but this is stretching even that. Body is light as can be for a big 9% ABV.

Overall - Dominus Vobiscum Lupulus is a top notch Belgian IPA, that is damned tasty and looks and smells even better. Bitterness is nicely balanced and while it's hard to create a big Belgian IPA that goes down really easy, this approaches it. While not quite as refined as Houbolon le Chouffe (the standard bearer of Belgian IPA's in my opinion), I can certainly see why this is rated in the same class, as all of the subtleties of the best Belgians are also present here. Certainly worth a try, but bring a friend as this could be tough to drink on your own unless you've got nowhere to go and a long evening (or weekend afternoon) in front of you.
