While on vacation my wife capped off our Chicago trip with The Map Room. We met with fellow BA's dhchatfield, autumnaldave and kmpitz2. These are all swell guys and fantastic BA's. I would reccomend hooking up with them. Now onto the beerfly proper.
We arrived early in the day and drank a few cups of passable coffee. I played around on the computer briefly. We drank a couple of beers and hung out until the crew hit. The bar is long and thin. Rows and rows of assorted glassware line the walls behind the bar. The chalkboard above the bar displays the beers available on tap. A row of tap handles overhead also display the beers available. They have a beer menu that list both tap and bottled beers. If you cannot find a beer to your preferances on the list. You do not like beer. I was very impressed with the beer line up available. Autumaldave mentioned this wasnt a particularly good beer line up for The Map Room. Perhaps I am easily impressed with beers I have never seen on tap. Some of the beers included Urthel Hop It, Saint Bernardus 12, Autumal Fire, Nefarious Ten Pin ect. The service was prompt. The beers poured into an appropriate glass. None of the beers I was served had any off flavors. The bartenders offered suggestions of things to try. Overall this is a fantastic beer bar and not to be missed!

This place is cool. I can't really think of a better way to describe it. It's just cool. A great spot to be just away from all of the really busy parts of Chicago. Beer list is deep but won't blow anybody away that's been lucky enough to travel all around for beer. Still feels a little like an old school bar, but that's part of the fun.

Love this place. Outstanding selection - with a heavy bias for high-octane brew and belgians. Great vibe. Appealing as both a place to relax with a brew or get some work done on a Friday afternoon as it is a place to spend an entire evening exploring delicious brews.

My favorite Chicago multi-tap, and a place I make it a point to visit several times on every Chicago visit. Great draft and bottle selection, with new items almost daily. Nice, beer-savvy people on both sides of the bar.

This is my neighborhood bar... a mere two blocks away from my home of the last 15 years.
The Map Room is widely known and loved by most. It was a pioneer in brining Chicagoans a wide variety of craft beers.
I started going in 2003 after returning from England and finding out that The Map Room had an engine that poured English beers from a cask.
My only suggestion is that they should serve flights.
Visit The Map Room when you are in Chicago ... But, know that there is much more in what many here believe is becoming the center of the third generation of craft brewers.
