British Columbia, Canada

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Here”s to Daniel Lapp, Oliver Schroer, ELH, and all great fiddlers. Libation and music, like the tumultuous marriage of malt and hops, stand waiting with us at the crossroads. And look: here comes the Devil, whistling past the graveyard, singing in the midnight choir, bottle in one hand, a fiddle in the other, and that crazy smile…

A: Standard light IPA colour, small frothy, white head with heavy lacing and retention

S: Citrusy with moderate hop, faint juniper in back

T: Hop predominant, with some lingering orange and lime, juniper and malt afterwards (differentiates from IPA here)

M: Heavier-than-expected body, fairly smooth

O: Decently refreshing and complex, a nice change from the many hoppy IPAs of the day.

650ml bottle - aaah, devils and fiddles, a match not made in heaven.

This beer pours a clear, bright medium orange-copper colour, with three fingers of puffy, rocky, and bubbly beige head, which leaves a few swaths of chunky lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, biscuity toffee, a muddled citrus and melon fruitiness, some subtle free-range simple syrup, and more earthy, piney, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and doughy caramel malt, some crackery breakfast biscuits, generic orange and grapefruit citrus rind, further tropical melon notes (I'm getting honeydew, mostly), a hint of earthy yeastiness, and more gentle leafy, piney, and herbal verdant hops.

The carbonation is fairly laid-back in its basically structural frothiness, the body an adequate middleweight, and mostly smooth, just a touch of hoppy intransigence making for a slightly less than ideal experience here. It finishes off-dry, with the robust malt proving that it has won this weakly contested war of attrition with the hops.

Overall, if the Devil's dream is to mess with something that you like, then that's what's happened here. This is by no means a bad brew, but it comes off much more like a decent ESB (now those are hard to find in these parts). Tasty, but don't go in expecting a huge, hop-forward offering. Damn you, Lucifer!

A: Amber, nice foamy light-coloured head, visible carbonation.
S: Melon, citrus, tropical fruits... yum!
T: Juniper, lingering bitterness. I'm disappointed that I don't taste more of the fruity notes I picked up in the smell.
F: Smooth, a liiiittle thicker than I expected.
O: It's hard to try a new IPA without comparing it to the ones I've had and really enjoyed before. This beer isn't bad, but it's not Fat Tug or Lord of the Hops.

Appearance. Pours a lightly hazy golden amber with a finger of just off-white head.

Smell. Toasted malt, some earthy and piney smelling hops, and a just a little wet dog ...a little bit, not referring to the size or breed of the wet dog that I'm smelling, only the relative quantity of the presence of that specific quality of the overall smell. I don't use stupid metaphors like that...

Taste. Toasty light malts and just a hint of metal. This fades quickly into pretty big piney bitterness with a little citrus rinds that last in the mouth a while. Pretty nice.

Mouthfeel. Lightish body with medium carbonation.

Overall. Nice IPA here. Easy drinking and a nice big bunch o' west coast style hops.

On tap @ Garrick's Head

A - Cloudy medium orange with some yellow glow around the edges. Half a finger or bright white head.

S - Very unique nose. Herbal hop aromas up front with some tropical fruit (passion fruit).

T - Moderate bitterness accompanies some grapefruit, lemon and herbal flavours. Moderate honey/caramel malt sweetness in the background.

M - Medium body. Lots ot tongue coating hop oils. Moderate carbonation.

Hoyne Brewing "Devils Dream IPA" @ 6.0% served from a growler purchased for $12
A-pour is copper gold from the growler to a clear dark gold in the glass with a medium size white head leaving a spotty lace along the pint
S-very hoppy , citrus , floral and a hint of pine
T-good tasting local IPA , mild pale malt meets a lot of hops and you don't taste the alcohol with a mellow dryness on the swallow
MF-ok/decent carbonation , big medium body
Ov-glad I re-visited this beer , well done Sean , good beer , decent PNW IPA

cheers LampertLand

Great IPA from a brewer I really like.
Nice copper color with a finger of off white head and good lacing throughout consumption.
Smelling fruity pine.
Tasting grapefruit, hoppy bitterness, citrus afters.
Great drinkable ale that I will surely procure again.

A: Deep bronze with nice white head, good retention, leaves some lace.

S: Fresh, leafy citrus aroma that's predominantly grapefruit rind.

T: Grapefruit and rind is upfront and pleasant, hints of grainy biscuit, decent bitterness.

M: Moderate body is well-attenuated, has a light hop acidity and a nice crisp finish.

O: This is a great drinking, old-school IPA... only a bit stronger than Sierra Nevada's pale ale or Tree's hophead (thought not quite as much hopping as the latter). It doesn't knock your socks off, but I'd be happy to session this regularly.

Appearance - Pours a light copper with a finger width of foamy, cream coloured head.

Smell - citrus and piney hops, hint of pine resin, grapefruit peel, bready caramalts, hints of citrus fruit.

Taste - citrus and piney hops bitterness followed by the grapefruit peel and pine resin. Malts are there with the sweetness, but primarily hop dominated.

Mouthfeel - medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes with lingering malt sweetness and hop bitterness.

Overall - An IPA with a solid hop level, however I wish the smell was truer to the excellent flavour in this brew.

650ml bomber poured into tulip a ways back (from notes)

A clear light copper with plenty of bubbles feeding a two finger foam that slowly falls leaving random patches down the side

S strange mix of melon, citrus, herbal hops and soft caramel, cotton candy, more tropical notes as it warms and just a hint of spruce

T some orange, lemon, and lime peel to go with what I smell, some sweet malt provides a little balance, pretty good but could use a little more hops

M lighter side of medium, not as much carbonation as I'd guess after looking at it but that still leaves enough to fluff it up, a little grit on the palate, lemon pith finish

O respectable beer but some room for improvement, perhaps not the freshest bottle? I don't see a date but seems a little malty at times

decent and drinkable but missing a little hop kick, well priced but I'd grab a Fat Tug sitting on the same shelf any day of the week over this one
