Wolf Vine Wet Hopped Pale AleWolf Vine Wet Hopped Pale Ale
Notes: Humulus Lupulus, wolf vine, or more commonly, the hop plant, shares with its namesake a rather interesting trait: after a decidedly unthreatening beginning to life, upon maturity each species stakes their claim. And with neither mercy nor conscience, will tirelessly strive for, and usually achieve, total territorial domination.

Appearance. Pours a clear, almost glowing amber with a finger of off white head, average retention.

Smell. Nice floral hops, some toasted caramel malts, pineapple, pine, citrus fruits and peaches. A little alcohol.

Taste. Lightly sweet caramel malts and some nice citrusy floral hops. Starts sweet, ends with a little bitterness. I like that.

Mouthfeel. Below medium body with medium-low carboantion.

Overall. A fine pale ale. More interesting than most, with some nice fresh tasting hops.

Sweet nectar of life: the mother of all wet hopped ales; my current favourite. There is just something about Hoyne and their delicious offerings that ignites a certain euphoria inside of me. And now here the glory of their biscuity malt and submissive but present hops shines brighter than the sun. It is quintessential as far as I'm concerned. It pours a beautiful amber +1 with a finger of head. The first hint of aroma is key limes and pickles. Somewhere in there is a bit of burnt caramel and candied cherry; a good deal of sweet and a whimper of sour. And now, drink: Delicious! Perfectly balanced biscuit malt, just shy of buttery grace, along with distinctive wet hop aromas of melon, cucumber, kiwi fruit, muted red fruit and slight lemon. There is a tiny amount of indescribable funk about 20 seconds into the finish, but it does not come anywhere near close to rendering this creation undesirable. This is a fantastic pale ale as both myself and my near-empty growler will attest. While my heart grows sore with the realization that this will soon sail swiftly into the sunset until next years harvest, I also shed tears of joy upon realization that I was alive to experience, taste, and savour such an excellent beverage.

Fresh and yummy , this is a pale ale that grows as it warms up. The hops spread in flavour and nose and the beer builds in complexity. Not a toned down IPA but a PA that is true to the style but maxed out with fresh hops . Hoyne is a brewery to watch.

Wolf Pine pours a light amber with a nice sense head. The aroma is floral and fruity, with some nice citrusy notes that come out with a swirl. The flavor is a wonderfully balanced pale ale with a nice caramel sweetness that plays perfectly into the fresh, lively citrusy hops. Some fruitiness from the yeast fits in well with the light malt, and there is just enough bitterness in the finish. Drink it while the hops are fresh!

A: Copper-bronze with an off-with head, good retention, leaves a little lace.

S: Nice hop aroma, with the immistakable wet cascade.

T: The wet hops are upfront, but not overbearing. The wet cascade has more of a jalapeno/green pepper flavour than citrus, but there's some underying floral & citrus here as well. Quality malt is nice and biscuity without being too sweet.

M: Well-attenuated, moderate body has a crisp finish.

O: Are really excellent pale ale that's enhanced by the wet hops.

650ml
A: copper, translucent
S: nothing but fresh hops! Intense. Pine.
T: fresh hops and some sweet malt. Light and fresh tasting. Very little bitterness. Almost like a session PA. The finish gets a little messy with the soft hops and sweet caramel maltiness. Would be a good summer beer.
M: light bodied, medium carbonation.
O: a pleasant beer that I would certainly buy in the spring/summer. Wish it had a cleaner finish.

A: Very minimal white head over deep amber liquid with excellent clarity.

S: Flowers and metal.

T: Rich malt backbone with munich and caramel along with floral and citrusy hops.

M: Medium viscosity and a very minimal amount of carbonation.

O: With more carbonation and a better aroma, this would be a near flawless pale ale.

A: Has that copper hue of a pale ale. Nothing to write home about but it is what it is! The somewhat dense head stuck around pretty well.

S: The floral hops are there, though they're muted by the malts.

T: Some caramel creaminess combined with crisp, slightly citrus/melon hops. Orange, lemon, and something fresh but slightly tart? Also just kind of leafy - not really earthy but has a green leaf quality. If I said fresh it would just sound like the marketing got to me... but it tastes fresh.

M: Crisp and lightly creamy.

Overall I'm pretty into it, pale ales are a little tougher to make exciting compared to more intrinsically interesting styles but I think this is a very noteworthy example. The base recipe is really good and the fresh hops undoubtedly step it up another notch.
