Batch# 225-226

Appearance: Somewhat of a foamer and, as is often the case with such beers, the initial head is impressive but as the carbonation dies down, subsequent pours are not; so, the fudge brown liquid winds up without much of a head though there are some splashes of lacing

Smell: Sugary coffee tones, with prominent lactose, vanilla and chocolate fudge; some piney undertones

Taste: The sweetness takes over, from the outset, along with fruity coffee tones and an underpinning of vanilla and fudge; some acrid pine tones build, after the swallow, and offset the sweetness of the malt bill

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation (after the initial froth died down)

Overall: There are a number of countervailing elements in this beer and, ultimately, they clash rather than complement one another

Poured into a Pipeworks NvU snifter. Seems lighter colored than a lot of stouts, with thinning edges and lacing that didn't quite go away. Scents of chocolate, vanilla, and coffee are very prevalent, and all blend together nicely on the taste. A sweet beer throughout, but it's not overpowering, and there's a slight alcohol burn underneath. Delivers exactly what is advertised, and yet another damn fine beer from PDub.

A: Pitch black. Dark tan head that dissipates somewhat quickly.

S: Coffee and chocolate. Basically a mocha.

T: Coffee and more coffee. Bittersweet chocolate and some sweetness to finish up. Vanilla was harder to find. No taste from the alcohol. Very drinkable beer, and deceptively so.

M: Perfectly smooth and creamy. Not overly thick, but enough body to remind you it's a stout.

O: Coffee. This is pretty much coffee with hidden alcohol. I love it, and if you like coffee stouts, this is right up your alley.

Dark brown color with mahogany around the edges. Light tan surface carbonation. But little head.

Sweet cocoa and vanilla aromas. Light roast coffee. The lactose sweetness is evident.

It tastes like tiramisu. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, caramel. Finishes as a root beer float.

It's super soft and smooth. Heavy body and the 10.5% abv is extremely well masked. High drinkability for such a big beer.

It's a beefed up yet still drinkable sweet stout. It's heavy and rich but I had no problem knocking back a bomber.

Pours deep dark brown but sits midnight black in the glass with a bubbly layer of light tan foam that dissipates to a thin ring.

Pungently sweet aroma of cacao nibs, vanilla, and lactose accompanies wonderful notes of freshly roasted coffee.

Aroma translates directly to flavor, all aspects including the vanilla, cacao nibs, sweet lactose, and roasty coffee compliment each other tremendously.

Full-bodied, low-medium carbonation, semi-chewy, sweet, roasty.

Overall, this is a damn good brew. A great after dinner sipper.

Batch #s 225-226

a: none more black. very small tan head that recedes to an even smaller head and only around the glass at that

s: dark chocolate and coffee primarily.

t: Coffee and then some coffee followed by some coffee. No but seriously coffee dominates here. It's good coffee flavor, not charred starbux™. But as it warms the coffee dominance recedes ever so slightly to waves of chocolate which surround a dinghy of vanilla. One can catch an occasional glimpse of the dinghy from shore but eventually the chocolate ocean envelopes it to nothingness.

m: Creamy and smooth. Carbonation is spot on. Body is suitable.

o: Highly drinkable for the abv. Definite recommendation for coffee flavored stout fans. The best of the dog/jones dog milk stout series thus far imo. Well done Pipeworks.
