Served in a shaker pint glass.

Who knows what darkness lurks in the hearts of beer drinkers? Anyway, this stuff pours a dark midnight sienna topped by a finger of wan sandstone foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, dark chocolate powder, light coffee, and a hint of treacle. The taste brings in more of the same, along with a touch of toasted oats. The body is a hefty-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a somewhat thick-ish feel. Overall, a pretty solid stout, nothing to write home about, but I could see drinking this again.

A-Clearish brown when pouring, two finger brown head that doesn't last long.

S-Roasted malt, chocolate, some oats, coffee isn't really there.

T-Starts with roasted malt, tad bit of chocolate and oats. that is about it. Not much else.

M-Medium in body, slightly watery, not much carbonation. Some alcohol heat.

O-Not sure that this beer needed to be over 10%, Pipeworks makes some amazing beers but this one is only ok. But glad I was able to try it, always love Pipeworks stuff.

Thanks to Oneinchaway for sharing this one at jmgrub's tasting.

Batch # 238 242 243.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is interesting but the fruity presence comes across somewhat weird.

Bought a bomber because I've heard good things about this one...

Nothing about this beer is great, or even good. Pour was flat...virtually no head despite a hard pour. Smells slightly sour. Tastes like blueberries for some reason, was that intentional? Mouthfeel is thin. Pipeworks is very hit or miss for me lately. I still give them the benefit of the doubt but my confidence in buying a random beer from them is waning fast.

A - Very little head on the pour, dropping quickly into a mocha ring around the glass. It's a really dark, opaque black. The color was what I liked best.

S - I picked up some oats, coffee and malt, but it's really faint. I thought the aroma was the weakest of any of the Pipeworks stouts.

T - Roasted malt, faint dark chocolate, a little cherry.

M - I get the effervescence on the tongue, nice coffee like body. A lot of residual bitterness on the back of the throat.

O - Pretty good beer, I'd drink it again. Could use more in the aroma, though.
