Barrel Aged Last KissBarrel Aged Last Kiss

Brewed by:
Pipeworks Brewing Company
Illinois, United States | website

Style: Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
We brew this Wee Heavy with Fennugreek, for a distinct maple character, and vanilla bean. The we aged it in Buffalo Trace barrels for nine months. The beer that came out of the barres is a beautiful composition of maple, oak, caramel, vanilla, bourbon and perfectly burnt sugar. Wonderful now but also will stand up to a Rip Van Winkle style nap in you temperature controlled area of choice.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Murky brown. Thin collar after a small khaki head dissipates.

Smell - Nice bourbon aroma. A little bit of toffee and butterscotch.

Taste - Again, the bourbon flavor is sharp and really nice. Butterscotch and toffee. Spices linger in the finish with oak.

Mouthfeel - Medium heavy with a sharp bourbon. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Good beer with a very nice barrel character.

batch #90 12 oz bottle

well balanced flavors of caramel toffee and vanilla. bourbon is nicely complimentary and not overpowering at all - perhaps due to age. aroma is subdued vanilla and bourbon. biggest letdown for me is there is practically no carbonation at all - like none. This took away from an otherwise nice BA Wee Heavy.

Bottle: Poured a dark copper color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention. Aroma of nice vanilla and bourbon notes with some caramelized malt and nice toffee notes. Taste is a mix of deep caramelized malt with some nice toffee undertones which are well-balanced against some vanilla and bourbon notes. Body is full with good carbonation and light warming alcohol notes. The beer is very well balanced which still showcasing some extreme flavours.
