Barrel Aged The Jones DogBarrel Aged The Jones Dog

Brewed by:
Pipeworks Brewing Company
Illinois, United States

Style: Milk / Sweet Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 13.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The first batch of Imperial Jones Dog we ever brewed found its way into some Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace barrels for 10 months and we are sure glad it did. The imperial milk stout brewed with cacao nibs and vanilla beans came out of the barrel with wonderful notes of bourbon, oak, barrel char, vanilla, coconut, dark fruits and dark chocolate. Delicious now or good to cellar in a temperature controlled environment.

Pours with a visible viscosity. Looks flat. Only the tiniest bit of light tan colored head. Very minimal lacing. Aroma is full of chocolate, vanilla, and sweet, syrupy bourbon. Taste is more of the same. Very sweet and very chocolatey. Bourbon and barrel are there too, but the sweetness takes center stage. Full bodied and viscous. Very low carbonation. Creamy smooth.

Batch 2 bomber

Holy smokes! This is fantastic! Reminds me a lot of 4 hands volume 1. Vanilla is huge. I honestly prefer how well the vanilla integrates in this beer than vanilla rye

Highly recommend!

Can I say, "Fuck you, Goose Island"?

Just curious.

If you don't get your tounge wet with this brew, then you have not had the best bourbon barrel aged stout ever.

Vanilla bitterness and cacao darkness blanket this milk stout with the rounding out needed when in the presence of the blessed bourbon sweetness that comes from a freshly emptied cask.

The lack of fizz upon pouring and subsequent headless beer in my mug of 5000-mile-old motor oil had me wondering if I'd recieced a dud and dude, it was not a dud. Let me tell you...

The carbonation was felt on my tounge from the first heavenly sip through the last savory drop.

The words I have cannot describe the decadent internal bliss that is swelling inside me.

Batch 209.

Heaven Hills barrels
Smooth mouth feel
Big barrel notes of vanilla, oak and some boozy heat. Semi-sweet but drinkable, enjoyed cold first and let it warm down. Body is medium to the tongue, not great but not bad. Thankful I got to try it!

Bottle (batch #209) poured into snifter. Although this bottle says aged in BT barrels, I was talking to Bobby at Durty Nellies Spring beerfest (2014) right before this was released and they were sampling it - and he said it was actually aged in Heaven Hill barrels. Breaking this bad boy out for the Bears first game of the season!

A - aggressive pour yield a few cm head, mocha colored, which settled quickly, almost no lacing. beer is a black color, almost reminds me of cola
S - oh yeah that great aroma of a BBA Stout that I love - sweetness, vanilla, bourbon
T - coffee, milk chocolate, bourbon, oak, vanilla
M - SOooo smooth, i love it. on the heavier side of medium bodied, lower carb. actually finishes a bit hot which I like.
O - outstanding BA stout. this is perfect for a late summer Sunday afternoon watching football. only wish I was able to get more than one =(

Picked up in a trade and poured into a stubbed tulip glass.
Pours dark mahogany/almost black with a nice tan head, good retention and minor amounts of lace. Aroma is sweet rye whiskey, chocolate, molasses and vanilla. Flavor follows aroma - a lot of whiskey, chocolate and vanilla, some sweetness on the back end but finishes dry and boozy - very well balanced - absolutely phenomenal. Mellow carbonation, medium-bodied with some heat and dryness on the finish.

I've had over forty of Pipeworks' beers.
This may not be my favorite, but it was the best.
Damn glad I was able to get it at an independent store, as the big box chain in the area didn't have it when I called at 2 but somehow got it and sold out by 3:15 the same afternoon.

Excellent beer, very smooth. Heavy on the chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon

Batch 209 -

Big, bold, imperial stout - very dark, mocha head, thin barrel-charred lacing. Incredibly pronounced note of raw bourbon - caramel and booze. Other barrel notes of char, oak, vanilla as well as incredibly dark, bitter chocolate and dark roasted coffee. The finish is spectacular - very strong, as if it actually gets bigger.

Fresh from the oak - this is very barrel forward with tons of whiskey, and in every way fantastic.
