Formerly Toasty Nut Abduction

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you want to drink a dark, rich, delicious coconut and almond flavored beer. (Let's be honest, for us it's both...all the time.) We took our base Abduction and added cacao nibs, vanilla bean, toasted coconut and almond. The result is a deeply complex brew that will linger with you long after you're done drinking it. Delicious now but also a prime candidate for a prolonged rest in your temperature controlled catacomb of choice.

From old, undated notes; when I had this it was still called "Toasty Nut Abduction".

Brown/black hue.

Dark khaki head; minimal lace.

Banana & chocolate nose.

Thick, velvet-y mouthfeel.

When chilled this evokes peanut butter, coconut, chocolate & banana...odd but good!

As it warms a hint of pickle juice sets in, taking this down a notch.

Drink this fast!!

Received in a trade with @bstyle. Poured from undated 750 ML bottle into a tulip glass. It pours ink black. The medium khaki colored head dissipated quickly leaving a thin sheen of lacing. The nose features roasted malt, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, almonds, and light char/smoke. When sipped, the first taste I notice is rich milk chocolate and freshly-brewed coffee. At mid-sip there is a distinct flavor of almonds and coconut. It tastes like a Mounds bar. The is increasing bitterness at the finish. This stout has a mouth feel that is medium-thick with a low level of carbonation. The warming 10.5% ABV wasn't overly apparent at first but I really noticed it in the second pour. Overall, this is a well-conceived and crafted Imperial Stout with lots of flavor. It makes a great after dinner sipper.

Grabbed a bottle at Dojo. Somewhat disappointed. Upfront velvet, nice nose and taste of vanilla some almond. Good/intriguing. But quick dissipating Head; sudden appearance of bright carbonation interrupting the velvet ... and a bitter off taste on back end just takes away the pleasant part of the beer. Curiously inconsistent even in one sip/swallow. Superior nose throughout. Taste evolved with warming and showed off some dark dried fruit/old ale roundness. Hints of dark chocolate show up. All in all improving as Beer warms. Hints of mint mixed with brightness of residual carbonation. Wood showing up as a bit of backbone to old ale characteristics. Settles with a tan halo in Pipeworks snifter.
Decent old ale/Imp Stout style beer, but nothing to chase or recommend.

Initially got vanilla on the nose but then got more of a buttery almond smell. Upfront taste is very similar. Lots of chocolate on the back end. Really tasty.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 9/5/16, had 10/7/16.

Pours dark, near black and quite opaque, with a half inch foamy head and some lacing. Smell is malt, vanilla, cocoa, some chocolate, kind of a nutty aroma, some caramel. The taste is similar, with the malt and vanilla leading, then chocolate, less cocoa than the nose, caramel. The coconut shows here, not strong, a general nuttiness to the flavor. Smooth. creamy, a solid medium to full body, well carbonated.

A good effort, with good aroma and flavor, but I had this the first time back in early 2014. and remember it being just a little bit better. Still well worth a purchase, like all Pipeworks Imperial Stouts.
