Brewed by:
Pipeworks Brewing Company
Illinois, United States

Style: Belgian Strong Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Nagami Equinox, a semi-dry Belgian golden ale brewed with honey, Mandarina Bavaria hops and 100 pounds of kumquats, pureed and added to the boil is just as refreshing as we hope'd it'd be. Brewed in collaboration with Trenchermen restaurant as part of our City Wide Collab series, we're picking up aromas of white flowers, tropical fruit, a subtle spice, and of course kumquats.

Pours golden in color wiyh a thin crisp appearance and a 1 finger white fluffy head that has decent retention

Smell is pretty good. There is a crisp citrus aroma right off the bat with some tropical fruit hops that follow. Light grainy straw malt aroma on the back end.

Taste follows the nose with lots of citrus flavors forward that are bright and refreshing. Some light tropical fruit flavors from the hops follow with additional crispness. More light grainy straw malt on the back end

Mouthfeel is somewhat dry I'm assuming from the kumquats, otherwise it's light bodied crisp bright and pretty refreshing given the dryness.

22 oz. bottle, with Batch #360/61 printed on the label. Another new beer creation from Pipeworks, this one describing itself as a "golden ale brewed with kumquats and honey". Sounds delicious.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a pale murky lemon colored body with a finger of frothy white head. Head falls quickly and leaves some thin spotty lacing. Looks pretty nice.

S - The smell is beautiful. Delicious tropical / citrus fruits - oranges, peaches, kumquats, bananas. Belgian yeast and mild alcohol fumes are detectable.

T - Taste is creamy, citrusy, and juicy. This doesn't even taste like it has alcohol in it, let alone 9.00% abv. Juicy orange / kumquat, peaches n' cream sort of taste, bananas. Honey sweetness is noticable on the finish. Maybe some bready Belgian malt detectable on the end, also.

M - Feel is crisp, clean, smooth, and juicy. Absolutely delicious. Like a glass of nectar. Medium bodied with perfect carbonation.

Overall, another amazing beer from Pipeworks. These guys are just constantly pushing the envelope and delivering new and amazing beer creations. Extremely balanced and drinkable at 9.00% abv. Very glad I was able to get a bottle of this. Highly recommended.

22 ounce bomber into a Pipeworks snifter. Batch 639. The hop profile for this batch has changed from Mandarina to Amarillo.

Pours a good looking orange, with a small, tight head and some lacing. Smells of Belgian yeast, hops, a little black pepper. Taste continues a strong yeast presence. Picking up the kumquats, or at least a not very sweet citrus taste on the front end. Some hops in the middle and a little sweetness on the back end. Solid body, feels kind of creamy.

Very enjoyable beer. Has a lot going on, more complex than my description makes it sound. Kinda surprised it isn't getting better ratings, but I definitely recommend it.
