Kwingston, the best brew cat in the world, has decided to open his own Catina. The house brew, of course, is a meowgarita inspired pale ale. While waiting to get the appropriate purrrrmits to open the catina, Kwing contract brewed at Pipeworks. The result is a pale ale brewed with agave nectar, oak smoked wheat, lime, orange zest, with a pinch of salt. Kwing suggested using Simcoe and Amarillo hops for a light citrusy, cactus finish. It's light, refreshing, and purrrfect for summer day or night. Purrs well with food.

“Kwingston’s Kitty Cat-INA A meow-Gartita inspired pale ale brewed with agave nectar, smoked wheat, lime, orange zest, and salt” is just about the dumbest thing I’ve seen printed on a bottle since someone put an image of a guy shitting himself on their label. In this case, it is far less offensive. Maybe I’m being too hard on Pipeworks. I didn’t really read the bottle once I saw the word smoked printed on the side. And that includes a note which read’s “STOP – READ BEFORE OPENING…” and goes on to alert the consumer of sediment in the bottle (a kind gesture). And, I didn’t recognize a cat on the bottle until after I smelled it and detected notes of cat pee. I smelled smoke too, underneath the tangerine/grapefruit/cat pee. This beer tastes sweeter than it smells with citrus up and down in there. The margarita flavors come through in hints but not much more. This beer can easily classify as a beer, and not some off-putting carbonated Mexican imposter Zima drink. The more I drink it, the less I like it. Let’s hope the 7.2% abv kicks in pretty soon here or else I might pour this out. I wonder if Pipeworks smelled the ammonia and then thought it’d be funny to put a cat on the label? I wonder if they can make the same beer twice? Because their website shows hundreds of different beers including this very beer with a 9% abv noted where mine states 7.2%. That’s not a good sign because even if the brewer stumbles upon a great recipe (and they did not in this case), they wouldn’t be able to replicate that even if they tried… mere speculation with the hope of being proven wrong. Overall (un)happiness metric – a stringent 2 out of 7 smokestacks. We wish you the best Pipeworks, give us a shout-out if you need some consulting.

This is one of Pipeworks' better efforts at a gimmicky, cocktail-inspired beer. It really does nail the meowgarita theme without going too far out of the realm of what you might look for in a beer instead of a liquor drink. The description tells you what to expect, and for the most part, that's what you get. The only place where it's unbalanced is that it's heavier-handed on the orange zest flavors than you would get from the triple sec in a good margarita. Otherwise, it's quite a fun drink, firmly situated in nowhereland, somewhere between a citrusy pale and a gose.

A margarita-styled brew with a cat theme? I dig tequila, margaritas, limes, and salt - all o' that - and it's all in here - but the beer came off kinda meh. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood. Came back to the second half with pretty much the same impression. Reminded me a bit of a grodziskie or a gose, with a little bit of lime, tasting like I'm chasing a tequila shot. Decent, but I don't find myself wanting another.

pipeworks rules, and here is another amazing beer from them to prove it. on tap at the ale house, it has a hazy pale washed out yellow color to it, really pretty mild looking, unexciting. the aroma is lively and summer though, the lime zest leads the way, but there is other citrus here too, as well as some juicy hops to go with it. i am surprised how reserved the smoke seems to be here, its very mellow, although it does force some attention toward the grain, which otherwise might not be all that interesting in this one. the flavor is great, more smoke than the nose, but still on the subtle side there. lime and orange for sure, juicy and fresh, as fleshy as it is zesty i think, and the salt brings that out, cool tough chucking that in here. whats crazy to me is the alcohol being so strong. its not detectable at all, and the beer is super light and easy drinking, so that its 9% abv is insane to me. must be the agave nectar fermented all the way down. i dont taste much of that, and the body is super light from a grain standpoint, so it has to be that. the hint of smoke is a cool feature, not so much that this still isnt light and summery, and its unique with the citrus and the hops. scary easy drinking this one is, dry and well carbonated, what a cool beer! any other brewery and i probably wouldnt even consider ordering a beer this weird, but this is just another day at the office for these guys.

This is definitely not for everyone and probably not for most.

Like most of Pipeworks odd flavors, this beer actually tastes like its name/description.

This is a salty, limey, margarita flavored APA. It is super flavorful and quite refreshing. I enjoyed this so much. But this is not an APA with a subtle lime aftertaste, this is full of margarita salt and citrus flavors.

I've had it a couple days old from a bottle poured in a glass and I've had it on tap at Kuma's Too.

A delicious treat.

L - dark yellow, nice haze, two finger head settles to a thin layer

S - lime, sour ale, wheat in the background

T - sour lime, slight sweetness, starts like a sour ale but the tart salty aftertaste is actually reminiscent of a margarita

F - medium to high carbonation, medium bodied

O - pretty weird, super fun, glad I tried it but may never have another one
