Notes / Commercial Description:
This red wheat ale brewed with orange blossom honey, ginger, and citrusy qingdao flower hops, was our first international collaboration! Our friends at Hop Head Farms, put Pipeworks in contact with Great Leap Brewing, Beijing, China's first craft brewery! Despite the great distance, passports were stamped, and a collaboration, originally concocted over email, was brewed at Pipeworks. Pretty cool! The beer has a great spicy wheat character that pairs well with the tangy ginger, and floral honey.

22 oz. bottle, with Batch #457 printed on the label. Another new wheat ale offering from the geniuses at Pipeworks. An exciting and interesting premise with this one 'wheat ale brewed with orange blossom honey, ginger, and quingdao flower hops'.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - It pours a dark golden orange colored body with some nice clarity to it when held to the light. Just over a finger of soapy off-white head.

S - The aroma is unique and pleasant. Honey, bready / malty, some Belgian-esque spicing, and lots of interesting floral aromas. I'm not really picking up on any ginger in the aroma.

T - Lots of honey sweetness in this one. Again, I'm not really picking up on any ginger. There is a bit of spice, but I'd say it is more floral and Belgian than anything attributed to the ginger. Lightly herbal / bitter hop presence, but I wouldn't say it is hop forward in any way.

M - The feel is smooth, crisp, and creamy. Medium-full bodied with good moderate carbonation. Pretty dry on the finish. Very easy drinking for the high 8.50% abv.

Overall, another interesting and unique effort from Pipeworks. Some very exotic ingredients used here, and these guys always make good use of them. Recommended if it is available to you.

A: a fairly dark shade of copper orange in color. Forms a modest sized yellowish colored head. Decent retention. Moderate lacing.

S: aroma is full of hops. Spicy and floral with a distinct sweetness. Ginger, citrus, honey.

T: taste starts off with a fairly malty sweetness that is actually quite persistent before fading and allowing the ginger to come through. The ginger is quite prevalent, though it's not a fresh "hot" ginger flavor. It's more of a tamed cooked ginger flavor. Then there is the honey sweetness and a bit of a black tea flavor. Finish is spicy, though it's more of an alcohol spice.

M: medium bodied. Spicy. Moderate carbonation. Mild to moderate bitterness.
