Notes / Commercial Description:
Yes! It's finally happened. Man, we love this hop. Tons of unique flavors and aromas (now, we've never had a gooseberry, but we're SURE this hop is packed with gooseberry aromas). This Imperial IPA was brewed with single hop additions of New Zealand Nelson Sauvin, and whoa, it's real good.

Out of a bottle purchased in Chicago.

Pours a deep hazy orange. 1 finger of off-white head that falls quickly.

Aroma is dank and tropical. A little of the classic white grape character of the Nelson hops. Then it's mango/guava with some lingering pine. Maybe gooseberry as well?

Taste is pretty balanced for a 10% Dipa. Bitterness is perfect. Juicy hop flavor is followed by a nice mellow malt backbone. Lots of sweet orange zest and pineapple in the finish and some more white grape. Extremely drinkable and makes its presence felt. Definitely split this one another drinker.

Overall it's a winner. Perhaps even better than the other single hop variants like Citra Ninja. I would be wary to buy it anywhere else besides the Chicago area, due to the freshness factor.

Batch #581-582 which means this was bottled on 12/6/14 so less than a month old. Going off of what I remember from last night. Thank god I drank this first or else I wouldn't have remembered it at all. Poured a cloudy dark orange with a nice white head. Smell was full of tropical fruits, grapes, and a little weed. Some alcohol detected. Taste followed for the most part. A bit on the malty side. Sweet with hints of white grape, citrus, and weed. Alcohol is somewhat overpowering. Mouthfeel is pretty full for an IPA. A little sticky but still easy to drink for 10%. Overall, a pretty good Nelson brew. I was looking forward to this after trying (and loving) Noble Ale Works Nelson Showers and I have to say this one fell somewhat short. I think 10% is a bit high when you're trying to showcase a hop like this. Alcohol and malt sweetness get in the way too much. It doesn't let you fully experience all that Nelson has to offer.

Tons of clean, dank, fresh hops. Has that midwest juiciness, significant malt backbone and booze. Pungent tropical fruits, orange, kiwi, strawberry, fresh pine. Very smooth beer - pretty well balanced, wish it were a little less in abv to balance it out.

Vibrant golden orange, clear, and a tight head that leaves an ok spotted lace.

Heavy fruity aroma. White grapes and pear. Some tropical touches of mango and papaya.

Fruity flavor. More of the white grapes, almost a dry vinous quality. Pear. Finishes with a tropical yet spicy papaya.

Medium bodied and crisp. Bitter and slightly dry on the back end.

Another fantastic Ninja from PDub. This series is one of my favorites out there.

Pours dark amber orange with a very thin head and somewhat oily.

Berries, earthy, tangerine, grapefruit, and white grape.

Tons of tangerine, melon, white grape, and berry notes.

Medium-bodied, light carbonation, oily, soft, and smooth.

Overall, this brew has a ton of berry and tropical notes and goes down smooth as hell.

22oz bottle, batch 581-582, poured into a tulip glass

A- pours a slightly hazy deep golden color with an orange hue, one-finger foamy white head reduces to a ring around the glass, a couple of patches of lace left behind

S- fruity hop character with notes of berry, orange peel, and passionfruit, also picking up some vinous white wine aromas and a hint of vegetal/garlic. Finishes with some spicy earthy aroma

T- sweet red berries up front with lots of fruity/tropical hop flavor; grapefruit, passionfruit & guava. Grassy & spicy earthy flavors turn into a malty sweet backbone that is slightly sugary and bready, more berries on a sweet finish with tropical hop linger

M- heavy and viscous body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy and slightly chewy mouthfeel and a warming finish

O- a nice showcase of the nelson sauvin hop, sweet malty finish

The nose starts with a nice fruity tone of oranges, tangerines, pears and apricot. I do get a bit of the caramel malt before it becomes flowery and perfumey.

The flavor is thick and sweet with some light bitterness. The hops remind me more of Mosaic as it tends towards rose petals and perfumes with some herbal tones. Hop cone, flowers and pine finishes this out.
