22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 1/7/16.

Pours a deep, opaque brown, with a little garnet color on the edges. A small, quickly dissipating head of dark, tan foam. Not much lacing, just a ring of foam . Smell is mostly lightly roasted malts and chocolate. some cinnamon, a little vanilla and lactose, a light fruity aroma. Taste leads with the malt, then cherries- far more definable and prominent than the nose, some chocolate, light vanilla, spices, including cinnamon. Smooth, creamy, full bodied.

Bring on Act Four! Might have liked the first two slightly better, but this is still really good. The cherries really come alive in the flavor, great body and feel. Didn't pick up on the almonds anywhere. Another sterling effort from Pipeworks.

BOD 1/10/16. Pours black. Normal head volume and lacing with outstanding retention.

Outstanding light nose of chocolate, roast and a nice light cherry note over a whiff of alcohol. As it warms, alcohol becomes more prominent.

Rich full body that is creamy. World class carbonation with an effervescent burst in the middle and a finely bubbled prickly finish. This level of effervescence is perfect for the body and aids in flavor separation.

The flavor profile is quite outstanding. Had the alcohol remained completely covered, it would be world class. First to arrive are roast and bitter dark chocolate. These flow to a mildly bittered middle that quickly effervesces into rich sweet chocolate with a rousing caramel base. Here alcohol begins to be noted and gains in intensity towards the finish. As chocolate and caramel ebb, cherry and spices emerge. I think the spice is cinnamon, but this stout is so complex, I can't be sure. As the finish approaches, I get notes of nutmeg. The finish provides a peak sweetness that competes with a slight alcohol astringency. The finish is a bit dry and leaves you with a nice alcohol burn at the back of the throat.
