Horchata inspired ale with rice, lactose, vanilla, and cinnamon.
This beer is something special. We've been excited about it from day 1, and we're very excited to release it! Like horchata, but also a tasty beverage in its own right, this beer is refreshing smooth, and full of slightly sweet cinnamon flavor. We started with a mash that includes wheat, oats, and rice flakes. Then we added rice solids and lactose to the boil to make sure this beer has a smooth mouthfeel. Once in the fermenter, we fermented with a yeast normally used in hazy IPA's and added vanilla beans, and cinnamon. Hope you enjoy!

16oz can

thanks to Ken for giving me a can to try
L: hazy golden body, foamy off-white head
S: cinnamon, vanilla, lactose, oats
T: sweet lactose, vanilla, cinnamon, honey, oats
F: medium body, soft carbonation, sweet finish
O: nice idea and a totally unique beer. As far as I know, there’s not much out there to compare it to other than a regular old horchata

This is another beer I’ve had in my fridge for a while and forgot about until now. What was I thinking when I bought this strange thing? I recall a horchata spiced beer that was pretty good a while back, I must’ve picked this one up shortly after. Oh well, let’s just dive right in
Pours a hazy pale gold with 2 fingers of white head that fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
This is actually pretty lightly spices in the nose, subtle but enjoyable. I’m picking up on aromas of coriander, cereal grain, cinnamon, sweet vanilla, rice, and light honey
It’s mostly more of the same in taste, lightly spiced but without much of a backbone. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting cinnamon, vanilla, bready malt, and light caramel. The swallow brings notes of cinnamon, oatmeal, sweet vanilla, honey, and a touch of orange rind, for some reason
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a surprisingly crisp beer. Finishes mostly dry and lightly sweet
This one wasn’t egregiously bad, just pretty average honestly. Wouldn’t repeat but wouldn’t turn it down

I took a water on this bc I love horchata. This smells and tasted like a skunked miller lite. A big no. Maybe horchata porter would work, but not an ale. At least not this one.

$ 4.00 (Including tax)/16 oz can ($ 0.250/oz). Purchased 6/3/20 from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. Reviewed 6/19/20.
Date on bottom lip of can “05/15/20”. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 45 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 54 degrees, still hazy.
Appearance – 3.25.
First pour – Straw (SRM 3), clear.
Body – Pale Gold (SRM 4), hazy. When held to direct light, same.
Head – Large (Maximum five cm, aggressive center pour), white, medium density, short duration, diminishing to a two to three mm crown and a thin complete cap.
Lacing – Poor. One contorted narrow band of tiny bubbles.
Aroma – 3.25 – Smells like an AAL but less aggressive – rice all the way! No malt, no hops, no yeast, no cinnamon, no vanilla.
Flavor – 3.25 – Taste follows nose. No alcohol (7% ABV, as marked on the label) taste or aroma. Secondary belches produce a hint of cinnamon and vanilla. No diacetyl or dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3.5 – Thin, watery with a touch of softness, lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation 3.25. Basically, an AAL with more alcohol and a couple of spices thrown in almost as an afterthought.
